It's about use case. My truck can also tow broken jeeps back from the trail head:

But it meant someone had to drive my jeep back lol. The poor guy is never gonna drive a TJ again🤣

Total weight with that trailer and a jeep is around 7-8k, it can do I-75 with ease.

I'm also able to tow north of 12k lbs. Easy to have one truck that can do everything I ask of it.

How heavy is your trailer? With my 5K jeep & my trailer @ 1400 lbs my &k trailer is close to maxed out... My little gas Ram 1500 didn't have enough nuts to tow it up the pass so I went back to a diesel. Probably could of gotten a Hemi but I like my diesel trucks.

It hauls my Jeep wherever I want to go. When I bought it, it was advertised as having a 7K towing capacity. That's not much compared to the full sized trucks but it works for me.

I went and test drove one and honestly liked it a LOT but I was really worried about it moving my fat Jeep... If it was closer to 4K lbs I might of thought about it. But I also know that it's that ONE TIME you need to stop or maneuver around something that gets you even if it's OK 90% of the time . I'd of gotten a WD hitch for sure if I 'd gone that route.
I wish they'd offer a 3/4 ton Jeep pickup.

But the fact that the JT can tow a TJ on a trailer and go a LOT more places than your or my truck can go makes it a perfect rescue and short trip tow pig...

I like having the ability to use both.. Thanks!!!

As far as towing goes, I don't know how well it's going to do, but I know just normal driving the 8 speed makes a MASSIVE difference in acceleration over the old 5 speed in the JK we have both with the 3.6l

I'm guessing the trailer is around 3k. I borrow it from work, I think it's a big tex 14TL?
Looked it up, the trailer is 3440 lbs. So comes in probably around 7.5k with my jeep loaded, and chains etc.

I test drove the diesel version... And yes I know the diesel technically had a lower tow rating than the 3.6.

Not a Jeep.... But yes I'd debated about either a PW or Ram... I'm spoiled with the Mega cab and really like them.

They should just offer axle upgrades for the Cummins equipt trucks.

Or build that AI concept Gladiator that is posted some where in this thread way back... It does have a much better off road look than the Power Wagon.

I do a 1700lb, 18' tilt deck with my TJ behind a 1/2 ton Ram with 5.7 and 8-speed. I can pull it as fast, or should I say as fast as I can afford, as I'd like up the mountain passes. Fuel mileage tanks, but it can handle it no problem.

Wife and I are talking some big future plans in the next couple years which has me eyeing 1-ton trucks and 40' trailers though 😬

Suggestion. Look at a light commercial duty truck. Co-worker had a ginormous fiver and switched from a 1 ton Dodge/Cummins to a late model, low mileage, used commercial and was a LOT happier. It actually cost slightly less than the 1 ton did, didn't have all the wussy tech on the thing, and handled the trailer a lot better. Of course, that was then, this is now. You'd also need to look at licensing and insurance in your state which may or may not turn into a problem. This guy already had a CDL.

I guess my memory is serving me wrong as I thought they offered the Cummins in the older PW to. But I guess I'm remembering wrong.

I should of gone a test drove a new Ram PW and seen what I thought. But I'll stick with the Cummins at this point. Since I hope most of my traveling will be with the motorhome it doesn't matter.

You don't have to have a CDL to drive a medium or heavy duty truck if your not doing it to make money. Which is why it's called a Commercial Drivers License. Now some states have a non-commercial Class A license but WA doesn't. So I can buy a Class 8 semi tractor and drive it off the lot with my regular drivers license.

How much did your truck cost new?

Oh, and I didn't need 12k towing capacity unless I'm visiting @lBasket 's mom...

As of last year the used truck market prices were ridiculous. You were better off buying new.

WOW that is a heavy trailer... But to haul that kind of weight it's got to be. It's part of what I've been dealing with where I'd like a 10K trailer but really hate to get something longer than what I have too. But if I was to buy a new/newer trailer I was a tilt deck so I don't have to fart around with the ramps...

My dream trailer would be 17' long with 14' tilt & 3' stationary so I could cross load my bike on the front area and still be able to load & unload the Jeep off the trailer. But of course no one makes that... I've got to talk to a couple local places and see if they'll build me a custom trailer.

I really like my 14' trailer I have now and have thought about just putting two 5k axles under it. And then put a motorcycle rail just in front of the bed to cross load the bike. And then a 12" extension hitch on the motorhome would but it back enough for me to still turn sharply.
