1952 - Several residents of Georgetown held a meeting to discuss the possibility of an organized jeep tour from Georgetown to Lake Tahoe, via the Rubicon Trail. On August 29, 1953, 55 jeeps with 155 enthusiastic participants left Georgetown on a two day trip that is now known as "Jeepers Jamboree 1." The last weekend of July each year, four-wheelers follow the tradition of these "pioneers."

Huumm... The 6th vehicle back sure looks like an early Bronco to me , The Bronco was introduced in the fall of 65 for the 66 model year.

I just post'em... Can't guarantee authenticity

Devil's advocate says they probably used a later photograph for the article because one did not exist from the original date the Georgetown residents started this tradition. It's a shame my Great Uncle who lived in Georgetown isn't able to recount those days any more. He lived close(ish) to the entrance of the Rubicon Trail. Friends and family members who drove long distances to get there, would park their tow rigs and RVs at his place and get a good night sleep before starting their trip.

Some on the forum who ran the Rubicon Trail 20 to 30 or so years ago might even know him or have run the trail with him.
