Right now we have too much busy-ness and it really is not a good time.

I have been taking notes and pics. I plan to have a build thread when/if things slow down.

Have you driven it much?

Thoughts on the 5.89's?

Less than 500 miles. That would require a lot of time to explain. I guess the short answer is they’re fine. Most people just wonder if it’s even possible to put 589’s in Rubi Dana 44’s. I’ m like, ā€œwell…they’re in there.ā€

It's the long term part that will take a while... And Off-Road you liked them correct?

Fine off-road. No issues. The 42rle needs all it can get.temps stayed about 210 wheelin. On highway they got up about 200 on longer hills.

The issues will be sorting out what happens over 60mph. I’ve done some work there, but I’m not too worried about it. I don’t drive it much and going 80 isn’t my goal. I’ve had it up to 89mph.

So it does still have vibes?

All it requires is a new pair of lockers. People lack imagination. šŸ˜‰

The vibes wouldn’t be too much different. Maybe come on at 63 rather than 60, but vibes are vibes.

It's a known issue with the 42rle paired with the 241, specifically. And a big reason for locking hubs to disrupt the harmonics.

my curiosity is peaked here. Always operated under assumption 5.38's was limit. When you say change lockers and it can be done, how so? Genuinely curious as i have 42rle and 4.88's right now and would very much like 5.38's or lower as it never sees the freeway.

RGA offers 589 gears in standard cut. The Rubicon lockers require thick cut. But if you switch to a different locker that uses standard cut, you can use 589.

I'm curious how well the pinion will hold up on Jeremy's setup. I'd like to see the side by side of the pinion in the 5.89's compared to 5.38's.

According to Rory at Trailmater, you shouldn't run anything lower than 4.88's in Moab as it's just a matter of time before you fail the gears but many of us do it anyway and I'm yet to hear anything to give me concern. But, 5.89's is a considerable drop from what's commonly run around this forum.

Get to 5.38's for highway driving then you can look at improving the crawl ratios in other ways.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I have factory rubicon 44's so know i can do the Revo thick cut 5.38's. Guess we'll see which happens first, factory rubicon lockers let go or my patience with the 4.88's in there.
