Soccer gender pay gap explained

https://www.breitbart.com/sports/20...-24-million-equal-pay-settlement-womens-team/
"According to the agreement, the women players will all split $22 million — which is only about one-third of the damages they sought in their lawsuit. The league is also chipping in $2 million to benefit players after they retire as well as programs to help grow the sport of women’s soccer, the New York Post reported.

In the future, the league will pay female players the same rate that male players are now paid. In addition, the women will also now receive the same World Cup bonuses that the men get upon reaching the tournament."

"One major point the league argued for the disparity in pay is that the women’s teams earn far less as a league.
Just a look at the viewership of the tournament games is telling. The men’s team brings far, far more fans to their World Cup games than the women’s teams. In 2018, the Men’s World Cup garnered 3.6 billion total viewers worldwide. That viewership brought $6 billion in profits to FIFA, the international soccer league. On the other hand, the last Women’s World Cup in 2015 only saw 764 million viewers. That is a huge disparity and an essential marker in what the two leagues earn from the fans.

Men’s soccer brings more fans and more of the fan’s money to the sport. And now that the league is being forced to pay its female players millions more in salary and bonuses, that is millions more the league will not earn to help keep the whole thing going."

what a load of BS. Where did the idea come from that two people should be paid the same just because they have the same job? Marx I guess?

I'm sure glad that doesn't apply to engineers, yet. I make what I make because I chose a specific thing to be really good at, that didn't already have a lot of people that were good at it, and I got really good at it. Nothing to do with what's between my legs and if the employers in my field were forced to pay everybody the same, they'd just pay me less, not everybody else more.

Enjoy your win ladies.

TBH, I may be the only soccer fan round these parts. I think they will end up regretting this. Time will tell.

Soccer is boring as fuck. My own opinion about the sport aside, this whole deal is completely stupid. Professional sports, boring to me or not, are a business. According to the article @Apparition posted there's a viewership disparity of 2.84 million between the men's & women's leagues. Why in good sense should they both be compensated as though that disparity doesn't exist?

This is exactly what will happen if this trend continues. There's a finite amount of dollars coming into the organization every year, so at some point in order to remain solvent they're going to have to reduce compensation from one side to satisfy the other.

Money. The women's game brings in less than the men.

From the article:

"Likewise, according to the openly misogynistic New York Times, the Women’s World Cup of 2011 “brought in just $5.8 million, while the men’s cup in 2014 netted $1.4 billion.” Advertisers, the Times confirms, will pay 80 times as much to cover the men’s competition as the women’s."

Seems the men's game netted $1.394 Billion more in the World Cups the article stated.

Grow your game ladies. The money will follow.

Sadly the women already made more than the men in a division that brought in less money, than them men's, to begin with. So now the women's division is going to make even less profit, and possibly go into the red if viewership drops. So what happens then? Do they dip into the profits from the men's to pay the women, or do they dissolve the women's team all together?

If they quit all the woke BS that would probably help. I have female friends from HS that played soccer through college and absolutely love the game to this day. A few of them said they stopped watching the women's division when all the "Equal Pay" BS started.

I say dissolve the womens team. I don't watch the USA ladies because of all the activism. South American and European ladies teams I enjoy watching.
