Soccer gender pay gap explained

In my field (mechanical engineering), women get paid MORE than their male counterparts.

This is because about 10% of BSME graduates are female, but the corporations do their virtue signaling by targeting a 50/50 workforce. So the market to hire females is extremely competitive, and on average out of 10 interviewees, 9 will be male and 4 will be declined in spite of being more qualified.

I have been hiring engineers since about 2005, I've never been able to hire a female engineer.

The only success I've ever seen is when the candidate places more importance on location than compensation. It's always been somebody who wanted to live in the area, and nearly always straight out of college. I can only think of 2 that weren't with the same company they started with out of school.

I seemed to always lose them to some sort of government job. Some great candidates too.

Around here it's the oil and gas companies. They'll snatch them up, move them to Houston straight out of school with a salary well into 6 figures. It's crazy. My first job out of school in 2007 paid $42k...my buddies that went into oil/gas were in the low 60s back then and every female in our engineering program ended up in oil/gas.

I'm sure they're still making more than I am, but I'm the one that can say every time I've changed jobs, it was by choice. Also I don't have to live in Houston.

I used to work for one of those oil companies based in Houston, tried to hire a woman for an engineer at our Louisiana facility still failed.

The times I've been at our headquarters, you could tell the hiring manager there had an an eye for "talent".

I was offered to be moved to Houston, I wasn't offered enough.
