How cold is your A/C?

I understand to a point, but I grew up without AC, and still to this day enjoy riding with the windows out and just the wind blowing.

I like that as well when it’s under 100 degrees. We have 2 actual convertibles and the TJ, so there’s a lot of top down driving through fall, winter, and spring. Then top up and AC on during the brutal hell of blazing inferno that is summer in Phoenix.

No dry heat in mid GA, or mid TN in the summer. And I still have working AC in the YJ....

You can also run the AC with the top down at red lights and when stuck in traffic.

A/C is only supposed to cool to a 15-25 degree difference based on outside ambient air temp.

Maybe that is what you need in WY. But here in FL, 45-50 degrees is needed.

Changed an oriface tube just today in an old pickup. 90 degrees out and 42 out the vent sitting in yhe driveway when done

The oils from the road coat the fins and dust sticks, which b we comes an insulation preventing cooling. T he third is the evaporator. Re-read the part about cleaning the condenser.

She has a new evaporator and condenser.

No expansion valve in a TJ, it uses an orifice tube.

The orifice tube performs the same function as an expansion valve. Changes the pressure to allow gas liquid to change to liquid gas.

I can emphatically say YES! You can take the windows out if you desire, but I prefer to make it to my destination alive.

This Is the reason I left Phoenix 20yrs ago! I only miss it 3mo - 4mo out of the year. But as I get older I question if I really like CO 3mo - 4mo out the year now???

Says the guy from balmy Alabama. You have enough moisture in the air so the breeze actually cools you. We have a blast furnace and the breeze just dries you out.

I can't wait for the rains to stop enough for the hard top to come off. I run with no doors or windows more months than with.

The orifice tube lives inside of the line on my rig...you can see where it is crimped in. You either flush it to clean it or you replace the line.

It's also critical to sufficiently remove atmosphere elements before charging the system. This includes purging the lines and manifold via the Schrader valve after hooking up to a new can of refrigerant.

So finally got around to testing this it as it’s 84 today. Drove around for five minutes keeping rpm close to 1,000 as I could with air on full blast and in recirculate. It ranged from 49.8 to 52.4 degrees at center vent. So I guess I still have an issue but not sure if it’s worth pursuing

It could just be slightly low on refrigerant.

Or the orifice tube may have some debris or stop leak in it if they didn't replace it.

If it gets worse, you may have a leak in the system.

It was pretty close to that temp when I got it fixed so it hasn’t gotten worse. Maybe that means the leak’s been fixed and it should be something simple.

Also maybe I can’t expect a 23+ year old vehicle with little insulation to cool like it did back in the day or I’m just getting older

I'll try to remember to post a temp for my 06 the next time I'm in Nashville. Was up there the other day when it was near 90 and didn't think to take the temp, but it usually runs in the lower 40s. Only thing I've done to the AC since new was to top up the 134 once or twice.

I don’t disagree, but I will take just about anything over our endless string of 115 degree days. I visited my Mom on the Gulf Coast one July and everyone was complaining about the heat and humidity - 95 degrees and 60% humidity. Didn’t feel bad to me as it was 20 degrees cooler than here.
