Front bumper removal to install AntiRock

One more question for everyone. In removing the bumper yesterday, one of the 6 mounting bolts that attach the bumper to the frame was missing.

Anyone know the size and thread pattern for those bolts? It's a hardware store like Ace or Home Depot likely to have a similar one?

I bought a set of bolts off eBay that are sold as Jeep bumper bolts if you want to keep the stock button head look.

I also bought shorter links from Currie as the stock links were too long on my 2.5 inch lift and didn’t have a grinder to cut them down which sounds like you do.

It's a standard bolt, though I don't know the size off the top of my head. Take one of them to the Ace Hardware and see. They might even HAVE them in the button head, if it's a BIG Ace.

I don’t recall the specifics, but they are metric. Don’t be fooled by some searches that result in threads where someone recommends a close SAE thread that isn’t quite right.
 
Hey all happy 4th!

I'm back in need of more advice. I cut an inch off each end of the links this morning for the anti rock, it was bothering me that the arms were angled so high. I used the grinder to cut the threaded rods, but now I can't get the nuts to thread back on. I've tried filing the uneven bits on each end but so far haven't gotten one of the nuts to thread.

Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? Here's some photos of how the ends look after cutting them.

Next time before you cut the threads, put a nut on. After you cut, unscrew the nut and it will clean up the threads.
 
If you need to clean up threads fairly often, get a Thread Restorer File in SAE and one in Metric. Each file will do 8 different thread pitches. Unfortunately, they can be expensive, or even more expensive. But extremely useful.

The bumper bolts on my 2002 are definitely standard 1/2-13 .
The sway bar bolts were metric .
 
Like mentioned before run a nut on there before cutting, lesson learned from my father a mechanic.
Then I round the ends off with a bench grinder.

I love little nuggets like this that I've learned from all of the knowledgeable dudes on this forum.

I bought my Jeep on September last year and to that point my only mechanical experience was oil changes and disc brakes. Earlier this year with the help on this forum I was able to replace my timing chain, which quickly turned into an oil pan gasket job, new harmonic balancer, new serpentine, and new distributor.

Tips like this that save time and effort are invaluable to guys like me that are learning to wrench on our rigs for the first time.✌️
