I've seen a few vague mentions of people being able to install and remove aftermarket bumpers without dropping the gas tank, by removing the bolts on the rear of the tank and it being able to lower down a little bit? Is this accurate, if so does anyone have any insight, maybe a video on how this is done? ( I have been unable to find one )

My current bumper needs to be removed (brand unknown) but it appears to have additional bolts behind the gas tank that I can see but cannot easily access. If I can avoid removing the gas tank I would prefer that, as the procedure listed in the service manual looks to be a real PITA.

Thank you.

Dropping the gas tank is a very simple task. Disconnect filler tube, the electrical, separate the fuel line, relieve the pressure at the fuel rail, remove the 7 nuts holding the tank up, lower the tank. Its a 10 minute job.

I’ve done multiple rear bumpers, each requiring to lower the rear of the tank a couple of inches. If you’re wanting it to be stout and used to be pulled on, you’ll definitely want to use inner, outer and optional frame tie-ins. But dropping the tank is easier than changing a tire on the side of road, unless you have rusty bolts then that could change things. Good luck Sir
