I’m not sure anyone is trying to flame the OP (except for the guy who made the black face comment) @Fouledplugs. We are trying to point out that what he might perceive as a good idea, is actually a terrible idea.
It is easy to select a competitive competition rig as an example to follow because for the most part, they wouldn't be doing it if there was not a high level of success. Yeah, we know that doesn't mean if you fail to follow their example that you won't have any fun.Ok, Im tracking, but did OP mention competing? Im trying to figure who derailed the thread and figure out where the competition level rigs came into the picture and how they relate to a “budget friendly” rock crawler
I don't think it is a terrible idea. Everyone needs to take a stand once in awhile and then take that to fruition. There are few learning experiences with more long term not to be ignored impact than doing just that.I’m not sure anyone is trying to flame the OP (except for the guy who made the black face comment) @Fouledplugs. Two points:
1) 40's aren't cheap, no matter what you do.

I have no idea how well it rock crawls/climbs.
I’m on board with leaning towards their builds/designs to see what works. And as I stated earlier, just as you did now, OP will have fun either way. I still believe it would be a bit cheaper to go leafs with a YJ. Thats just my .02 which is whats it’s worth via mostly speculation here.It is easy to select a competitive competition rig as an example to follow because for the most part, they wouldn't be doing it if there was not a high level of success. Were you at 2019 KOH EMC? The only reason I ask is bc the winner was on leafs at all four corners...Ok I've only been a volunteer at KOH and I don't build rigs like you or compete but I would notice a leaf spring passing through the check point.
Maybe he just drove it through easy parts for poser shots.Pending a healthy blend of ego and humility, yes.
Nor do I. So, how do we weight and value the example?
How well did Jessie do on his leafs at KOH?
FWiW, I'm not taking a side on the debate because my post count is too high. A well setup leaf can out perform a poorly done linked. The blanket statements don't work without some qualifications.
Wow!!!! Shocked. Ever heard of Jesse Haines? Or his 2019 co driver Harry Wagner? Jerry should have with his high online forum activity. They used a leaf sprung rig in 2019 KOH but okay.
More hear say on the forums from the high post guys.
How far did they get before they broke it?

Mhmm..a lot of folks were being passive aggressive.I’m not sure anyone is trying to flame the OP (except for the guy who made the black face comment) @Fouledplugs. We are trying to point out that what he might perceive as a good idea, is actually a terrible idea.
YES, go to pirate and ask the same exact original question over there.Anything beyond 35" tires and I'd go to another site for information. What you're talking about is just a little beyond the scope of what this site is about. Pirate comes to mind. Honestly, no offense to anybody here but it just seems like there are better places out there for this information.

Blaine doesn't exactly blow sugar but he has the right answer. Sometimes you have to man up and go where the knowledge is.Haha, can you imagine? I'd love to see the responses just for the hell of it. Those guys are ruthless.

Isn't flaming just an insult? And your statment in 64 was a bit of a back handed insult. A mockery. Was it not?Oh yeah... that sounds a lot like "flaming" doesn't it?![]()

I may be backpedaling now as I am only pointing out what was a personal attack. It was indeed passive aggressive which allows you to have one foot out the door when it comes to accountability.
A great way out of this is to say im looking too far into it, or that I’m making it a bigger deal than it is. I was just confused by the finger pointing.
