Anyone have a rock crawler?

Budget was mentioned in the original post.

Yes, but it sure doesn’t mean it is the best bet. If you have rig with leafs already installed, clearly leafs are your best budget option. Doesn’t say anything at all about their suitability for competition or off-roading in general.

Careful. You might get yourself called out.

Who said your pictures are from WE ROCK? I just went to that event at Rausch Creek.
Oh sorry, I thought you were saying my pics were from W.E. Rock. After some research the team that the red leaf sprung YJ belongs to, does in fact, compete(ed) in W.E. Rock and UROC sanctioned events. So the prob is from WE Rock or UROC.

And in post #137 I was simply breaking down what was quoted. It was mis representing, it was without fact.

Yet a leaf sprung vehicle won one of the KOH classes with leafs on all four corners.

So if we go off that fact that the KOH 2019 winner had leaf spring at all four corners, leafs do have a place in sanctioned competition level rock racing/crawling, mainly on top the winners podium. 😂

People can always compete with whatever budget rig they have, but that doesn’t mean it is the best route out there.
Not a fact. As the winner was on leafs. See post #91. At KOH 19 it was in fact the best.

Again, I was pointing out to say you cant compete in a comp with leafs is not true. And to say you wont win with leafs is also...not true. I get it, coilovers, links, and big hp can put you at an advantage. But that only gets you so far and in 2019 it wasn't the top of the winners podium.

See post #91. KOH19 winner’s best bet wasnt coil overs and links. It was just simply..leaf springs. Agreed, leafs were already installed and prob his best bet. Yet outperformed even Savvy’s built JT with a likely a much larger budget.

I'm sure this Jeep would be much different if the budget was higher.
Haters will say its shopped 😂

Spotted at KOH

Not saying its the best. As I dont want to seem like I am trying to argue with you. There is no argument. You can compete with leafs, you can compete with coils/coilovers. You can win on leafs, you can win on coils/coilovers. Its all been done and documented.

At the end of the day I was pointing out that you can compete with leafs and win contrary to what was stated in the beginning of the thread. It was misinformation.

You know what all of the back and forth, this example, that example, leafs rule, leafs suck, actually means? Not a fucking thing. If the Toy on leafs meant anything, next year, all the rigs in that class would be on leaf springs. If coils and shocks meant anything, all the rigs that have had their asses handed to them by the Savvy team would get a rig on coils and shocks. If you want to draw any parallels, do it on the long average. Savvy kicked everyone's ass on Falken Tires. Does that mean you'll win on Falken tires, not at all. Campbell wins on Goodyear. Are you going to win if you run the same tires? Nope, not likely. Everyone has their own plan limited by budget, imagination, experience, and wherewithal. On a given day in a given race, someone is going to win and the rest are going to lose. Putting any of that down to a choice in equipment is a sad mistake. All it takes is one rock flipping under a rig in front of you and you're done and the guy in front of him is going to place ahead of you. Every single aspect has to go your way to win.

It would be foolish to think that the Toy on leafs will repeat. It would not be foolish to think that a rig on coils and shocks will beat it. The inverse is also true. If there was an answer that would guarantee a win, everyone would be doing it. There isn't one.

He probably competes in the mod-stock class. If you read the rule book for WE ROCK mod-stock, you'll see there are some fairly strict rules (IE wheelbase is within 3" of stock). Trying to use that class as anything more than an amateur event is little bit of a reach. Its main intention is to get everyday rock crawlers out competing for fun. WE ROCK unlimited class is where it really starts to get serious.

In terms of the guy who won with all four corners on leafs, I find it hard to say that means much. Blaine made good points about that above. You could go out to KOH with a Conestoga wagon powered by a lawn mower engine and still have a calculable chance to win. There is too much going on. IIRC, Savvy lost their lockers in the middle of one of the hammer trails. Trying to navigate a school bus through those trails without lockers is tough.

Again, my overall point is that while you can compete with leafs, you still have better options out there in terms of wheel travel and overall comfort. I've driven plenty of leaf sprung vehicles on and off-road, but never found them more enjoyable than my short arm TJ.
