The headlight retaining ring will not go down far enough to set the screws in place. I have not heard of anyone with these issues so am I doing something wrong?

Did you put the headlight in the bucket, then try to put the ring over the headlight? I had issues doing it that way, so I had to put the ring on first, then install the headlight/ring as one assembly.

Setting this up required a bit of dexterity. I had to hold the headlight in the bucket, ensuring the three alignment "bumps" were in their recesses, put the ring over the headlight and ensure the three screw tabs were indexed properly, remove the headlight / ring, bring it to the work bench and press the ring down over the headlight until it bottomed out, then go back to the Jeep and install the headlight / ring together.

I did it all the ways, both on the bench and on the Jeep. Just would not get it all the way down. My rings were painted at one point so I even ground off the paint on the inside. The IPF's that uthese replaced fit all the way down with no issue at all.

might be a dumb question but do these come in a set or do i have to order two to get two headlights? i checked a few websites that sell them and none of them clarify.

They come as a pair of 7" Round E-Code housings w/ Koito 60w/55 Halogen bulbs, and a nice plug 'n play harness with two relays. Harness is a bit too long for a SWB TJ, but just loop the harness.

Though made for FJ40s, this nifty little bracket holds the relays and can be modified to fit anywhere.

I've been running the Hella E codes for several years now and while they are an improvement on the stock sealed beams, I have had an issue or two. I originally ran them with the standard Hella bulbs that came with them. After a few years, I put in a set of cheap LED H4 conversion bulbs from Amazon that I've still got in there and I'm not really that happy with. The main problem I've had with the Hella lenses is that they've got a foggy film on the inside that I've not been able to get cleaned out other than a small spot in the center. No idea what causes that but it started with the original Hella halogens.

The LED bulbs throw strange patterns and as originally installed, the high and low beams seemed to be swapped around. I swapped the wires on the plug to feverse them which kind of fixed the problem, but on high beam it does seem to hunting possums up in the trees while on "low beam" they cover about the same area as the stock fog lights do.

For the folks who have been using the Toyota lights long term, how are they working out for you? Any issues pop up along the way?

I did order a set last night from some Toyota place in Kansas, which even with the crazy shipping price, was cheaper what I paid for the Hella setup back when I first got the LJ in 2019. I'm planning on leaving the LED bulbs alone once I get the Toyota lights installed. I might go to the higher wattage H4 bulbs after I've run the ones that come with the Toyota lenses for a while.

All good for the year I ran mine before I moved to LED

Got home and had an email from the Toyota place in Kansas. They want a VIN. This should get interesting. LOL

You’re in the SE, if they give you a hard time, order from https://autoparts.rickhendricktoyot...hopping_RickHendrickSandySprings&gad_source=1

Last set I did in store pickup and was chatting with the older guy who ran the parts dept. He said he could always tell when these popped up on “one of them jeep sites” again.

He thought it was funny and was just happy to move the product

Nice brackets.

I have long switched away from these lights. Was happy enough while I had them. Never the took the harness out when I switched to LEDs. I just put the relays here..

I've bought these lights twice... never had them ask for a VIN.
The VIN input is on the Toyota parts order form, but you are correct you don’t have to actually put it in to place the order. When mine didn’t show up as expected, I called and talked to a person at the parts department, and found someone forgot to pull the part. An online order is fulfilled by the parts department personnel - they receive the order, a parts employee pulls the parts, verifies the order, packs them, then puts them in the shipping area. So it’s possible for someone reviewing the order to think they need the VIN.
