LED lights and rewiring? Various threads have different answers

Yea just get any 3 wire leds and ground to the fender for flat fenders. Or 3157 led replacements for stock, just make sure they have distinguishable low-high. The stock side markers give some people issues if led do research on that.

The issue is often not the side markers themselves, it is a result of putting LEDs up front which takes away the ground the side markers need. So people think it is a side marker problem but it is not a side marker problem.

So I have LED headlights. Holly retrobrights (Plug and play), the quadratec rear LED kit with LED relay. Could now just use LED bulbs in my front turn signals and markers since I have that relay or are additional modifications needed? Thx so much. Figured I would ask here rather than start a new thread. Thx

If you just throw in 3157 LEDs into your front parking/turn signal lamps, you will screw up the side markers. You either need to do the diode/resistor mod for the side markers where you rewire the side markers to function like a 3 wire and simulated 2-stage brightness, or you can convert your side marker to no longer be a blinker and marker Combo and just make it a running light, or you can leave things alone as stock.

Ok thanks I think that makes it clear, even if you have a LED relay for the tail lights there is no way to do LED turn signals without modifying the wiring.

Is there a link to that mod?

Ok thanks so much. So LEd will work fine in the turn signals and just leave the side markers as regular bulbs.

I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying.

I do not think I do.

I have the Qudratec rear LED light kit with the LED relay. I just was to add LED bulbs to the front signal lights. I do not want to change anything with the side markers. I do not want to modify wiring. Can LED turn signals be used with regular bulbs in the sifted markers?

That’s exactly what I’m telling you - no, you cannot do that and not have problems. Your side markers will stop working as soon as you install LED bulbs in the turn signals. It is because the side markers depend on the turn signals to be incandescent.

You bought the wrong taillights. 🤫

Understood, thanks. Appreciate the help!

If you want to run all LEDs, you can do the mod I linked above, but you will then need to run LEDs in the side markers. Incandescents in the side markers would not work.

Alternatively, you can run LEDs in the front turn signals, but the side markers would need to be converted to a running lamp only. Many modern cars are this way, but you lose your side signaling indicator which sucks. Modern cars address that with blinkers on the mirrors. Ultimately the issue stems from Jeep making the side markers dual function with only two wires, which is great, but not good if you want LEDs. Always pros and cons.

I still haven't decided what the perfect way to go is. I like my LED front signals but the diode/resistor mod to make them work and still keep side turn signals is a pain.

Easiest option by far is to just leave things alone. But I do understand that's boring and the LED front signals look much better.

Yea, I wish I could find a way to do LED turn signals and just leave the side markets along. I really do not want to cut wires or wire anything into the turn signals or side markets, surprised no one make a plug and play for this?
