Hi all, I'm rounding the corner and almost to the last stretch of finishing my daughters 2000 TJ up and I have a question about the side markers as well as some other light questions in general. First off - she picked out some flat fender flares so I will hopefully be putting them on next weekend, I tried looking through old posts but couldn't find what I think I'm looking for but I want to do away with the side markers for now and wasn't sure if I could just take the bulb out and find a way to seal them up really good and tuck/ziptie them out of the way neatly or if this would cause an issue with it thinking there was a blown light. I read some of the older posts that talked about issues with side markers when changing from incandescent lights to LED, but didn't see anything about leaving them removed. Secondly - Her jeep had halo lights before I started this project but now I've got some LED turn signals and brake lights. I read up and it looks like I'm going to need to change the flasher relay to an EP26 for my 2000 so I got one coming. This might be a silly question but will this affect my headlights in any way? Do I need to change another relay for the brake lights? Thank you guys!!

So it looks like I’ll have to keep the side markers and keep them on an incandescent bulb if I want to use LED lights for the front turn signals if I’m reading that correctly. It’s not the end of the world if that’s the case, I was actually looking at some of the small 3/4” round markers and thinking of putting them inside the wheel well if that was the case. Thank you for sharing that @MikekiM , I read a bunch of old posts but skipped over a lot because it seemed like repeated information and probably missed some good stuff 🫤

You can delete the side markers and run LED front bulbs perfectly fine. You have to word it just right in the explanation for people to understand, but the problem with LEDs as far as the front lamps and side markers go, is that the side markers depend on the front lamps being incandescent to work properly. The side marker has to ground through those front parking lamp bulbs, and when LEDs get installed into the front parking lamp sockets, they ruin the ground path for the side markers. So people think it's a side marker problem, but really it is not.

If you delete the side markers, then nothing matters. Run LEDs up front and there is nothing else down the line, like the sidemarkers, to be choked out.

Of course, you won't be complying with DOT requirements if you don't have a side marker, so I don't really like that idea, but it's your Jeep.

Thank you @machoheadgames , I appreciate your input. I’ve pretty much decided I’m going to put some side markers inside the wheel well on each side so I’m going to look around the internet for a while and find some that my daughter likes. The 3/4” round ones seem pretty cool to me but an 18 yr old girl is a different story lol. Do yall have any suggestions for aftermarket side markers that you could recommend?

I used these on one of JKs when I switched to flattie flares...

A little larger than the little 3/4" button lights. Picked them up at a truck lighting supplier.

That’s exactly what I’m looking at doing. Anything I need to pay attention to when getting the lights? Is there anything you would do differently after having already done this?

Me? Nothing different.

Well... measure twice drill once. I drilled the mounting hole about a sixteenth too big... had to glue the drivers side in place.
Other than that.. they worked as expected. Come to think if it.. I may have an extra in my parts bin if a part number would be helpful. The JK was years ago, so I might be mistaken, but I'll take a look if you want.

Yeah that’d be great if it’s not an inconvenience. I have plenty to do still so take your time!
