Jeep sales tanking, buyers say too much tech

This has been Jeeps total existence. Willys Overland , Kaiser , AMC , Chrysler , Daimler Chrysler , Stalantis .
Jeep is the cockroach of brands , living on and on .

You skipped FCA (who merged with PSA to form Stellantis), but your point is valid.

I'm not sure how an Italian company and a French company merge and end up a Dutch company. I assume the Netherlands must have some sort of favorable tax situation.

Awwwwwww I'm crying here - no automatic with the V6?!? What will the automatic obsessed effete Americans do?

You’d be much better off with an auto vs having the clutch explode and cutting a fuel like. Jeep’s recall simply replaces it with the same part and reprograms the computer. It also has been putting people with larger tires into limp mode.

About time Ford buys them and completes the circle of their Jeep life.

i could get behind this as long as they don't just continue the stupidity. I'm not sure the price point or level of tech present in the Bronco makes a good case for that, but maybe they'd slot the Wrangler in somewhere under the Bronco as a more stripped down, SFA, basic offroader.

This.

The last thing you want is a current Jeep with a manual transmission

Jeep Manual Transmission Recall Due To Fires

I can't guess what my confidence level would be if I were told that a mechanical clutch that is overheating and catching fire will be remedied by a software update.

No , Ford would put a Wrangler looking body on a Maverick platform and lower the price of the current Jeep and rake in profits.
The small segment of true off-roaders would have to buy loaded , expensive Broncos.

What they ought to do is just reproduce the TJ. Make them bare bones and make them "recreational vehicles", nothing more.

Sure, the market is much smaller, but it would bring Jeep back to what I've always though of Jeeps as being: simple, utilitarian vehicles.

You know what? I thought about that until I realized that the one I want is 28k not including taxes and fees.

Is that the one that's basically a resurrected CJ that isn't even street legal? If so then I'm afraid there's bad news about what even a stripped down Wrangler might cost in 2024.

do you mean literally a TJ, or do you mean a JL built in the spirit of a TJ with TJ-equivalent options and tech?

There's a few things about the JL that I wouldn't mind having if I could skip all the modern car crap and if it was built to TJ-equivalent quality standards, which isn't even really that high of a bar.

Yep, that's the one!

I mean a TJ with the only difference being a more modern engine and transmission. Something that already exists but can be repackaged for the TJ in regards to engine and drivetrain.

I have heard that but I don't use any of it. For the most part the only thing I use is the remote start. The update loads so much faster than the last iteration.

I use the maintenance part of the app in case Ford has any questions for potential warranty issues. I do almost all of the maintenance on my truck and document it including pictures of the receipts for oil, filters, checking fluids, adding DEF, etc. Maybe a waste of time but if ever questioned it's all there.

Speaking of updates, according to ZooDad (I'm sure you know who he is) there's 7 modules on my truck the need to be updated. I'll be getting his FDRS cable soon to get those modules updated. The Sync screen will sometimes freeze then reboot (happens about once per week) and is the main issue I'm seeing.

Yeah I won't let Ford touch my truck if I don't have too but I've got all the receipts in my email if I need to show that I've done for maintenance. Def is always filled at the pump so I have all the history on that from my fuel card.

Everything works on mine so I don't mess with it. Ford wants to update something in the tuning which they said had to do with emissions and I said I like it how it is so let's ignore that.

Yeah I had that update done a year ago by Ford, I believe it is the 22E07 recall. Only thing I've noticed is that the truck uses more DEF which supposedly equals less EGR. Everything works on mine also, just have a couple bugs with the Sync system, one which I've mentioned which causes CarPlay to need to be restarted. I can say the truck pulls my 5th wheel like nothing else I've towed with.

I do barely use def. My buddy's duramax drinks it. I've filled mine twice so far this year and according to the app I still have 4500 miles to go.

definitely possible, though I think it stands a better chance of surviving with Ford than it does GM. I don't think I've ever even noticed a new Blazer because they are indistinguishable from a Nissan Rogue or any other generic CUV from the last decade.
