Jeep sales tanking, buyers say too much tech

You would be vastly wrong. just the drive train alone is almost worth that. go to a dealer and price out new diffs, transmission, tcase and engine with accesories. the rest of the jeep is almost free.

i work for mercedes....if it happens again let me know.

is there a fix other than replace? wife loves the car but I will not take the chance?...thanks for the help

Just wait until it's all "subscription" model based like BMW and many of the other big luxury names want to do.

Nissan, Mazda, MB and I am sure many others are now subscription based to use the remote start and many other features. They are all going to an app instead of key fob to remote start....f-in BS

My wife’s highlander is subscription for nav and remote start. Had it for the free the first year. Needless to say we don’t have those features anymore.

Mortgage payment = to a car payment???? in 1997 my mortgage payment was $1400/mo (included taxes) any car payment then was less than $300/mo. now a days mortgages are $3k minimum around here and those morons probably have 2+ car leases at $770+/mo

I don't know how common that is but I can certainly imagine someone who bought their house while interest was low and before prices went crazy, but buying a car in 2024, could come close to that. I had a buddy have 2 car payments combined to be about equal to his mortgage pmt.

I don't think I've ever had more than 1/3, have never had more than one car loan at the same time.

in 97 we paid $219,000 for our house, put $60K down, interest 8.625% (with paying 2 points) Taxes where $6800 per year. Payment was around $16-1700 per month. Now house is $800K+ and $16K in taxes, don't know how younger people do it unless they are the wall st bonus boys....but there are sure many people here in much nicer houses driving much nicer cars than us?

I am with you on that, I don't want to f with the phone to start/unlock my car or hotel room.

I’ll remote start from my phone app while finishing getting ready for work in the morning when it’s -20 outside. No reason to use it for unlocking when it unlocks by proximity to key and grabbing the door handle.

The hotel room phone key is awesome, it allows me to never have to talk to the weirdos at the hotel counter.

when it works, last few times in a hotel my wife could not get the room open before I whipped out the key. My key fob will start the car from inside my house, meanwhile the MB app kept crapping out for my wife's benz. Now we would have to pay for both the Rogue and benz, so no more remote start. The last thing I want after I pay off a car is to have to pay for a subscription for that.

I wouldn’t use any of it if I had to pay separately. My keys will remote start too from inside but I don’t keep them in the bathroom.

The phone app gives feedback on status and time remaining with the option to extend or even schedule a start automatically.

I always have the hotel key app ready well before I get to the door.

for nav as well? total bs...even though most will use carplay, until they go subscription based on that.

Yeah, we just use CarPlay now. The app was kind of cool at first, could unlock and lock the car from anywhere, same with starting it. But not worth paying for. Click on the map now and it tells you that you need to renew your subscription.

I can NOT comprehend why anyone would consider using a PHOOOOOONNE for anything like that - its a pain in the ass. Have to get the thing out, find the "App", get into same, then select the function desired - oh and better hope that its charged up AND that you have it on you to start with. Makes zero sense to me!

I don't know about you guys but I love all my old paid for vehicles. I'm 100% happy with them and I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think about driving them, and how I can keep them looking good and running good all by myself. I have zero interest (no pun intended!) in an overpriced new vehicle. Prices on new vehicles are a huge part of what keeps folks from getting ahead IMHO.

Agree!

It’s an unlock swipe on the Home Screen, one click and a slide to start my truck from anywhere in the world. And that’s from a locked phone. It probably takes less than a second maybe two and I don’t generally carry my keys all around my house with me.

If I start it with the key fob. It’s three button presses split between two buttons.

If it works for you, that's great. I wouldn't want to fiddle-fart around with the braindead thing.

For my next vehicle I need to research the newest year to give me what I want. Want Carplay, but do not want any subscriptions and...preferable not an American made. Just don't trust them anymore.

I’m a Ford guy so you I’m biased. They’ve simplified everything in their last app update. It works well and costs nothing. I would not pay for subscriptions.

I refuse to buy foreign. Last one I bought was new BMW and I wasn’t impressed. I’ve had all the others as rentals and I’ve never had one that made me want to go buy one. I did like the Range Rovers but I wouldn’t want to pay to maintain one.

My truck is a ‘21. My other vehicles are 06’s and an ‘04 so I’m fine without tech but my truck was done right.
