Jeep sales tanking, buyers say too much tech

I’m a Ford guy so you I’m biased. They’ve simplified everything in their last app update. It works well and costs nothing. I would not pay for subscriptions.

I refuse to buy foreign. Last one I bought was new BMW and I wasn’t impressed. I’ve had all the others as rentals and I’ve never had one that made me want to go buy one. I did like the Range Rovers but I wouldn’t want to pay to maintain one.

My truck is a ‘21. My other vehicles are 06’s and an ‘04 so I’m fine without tech but my truck was done right.

I have had plenty of fords, last one was a limited 16 explorer, snyn system sucked. Took it till 147K before I dumped it. Have a 16 Outback with 146K on it but thinking something a bit bigger for all the trips back and forth to PA with the clubs in the back. Everything is all MSRP still here so I will wait and wait.

Sync isn’t close to the same as that. I primarily use CarPlay now if I need nav so I can use Waze but the current sync works fine for audio functionality. I have knobs and buttons for everything else so sync really is only a radio and a screen for all the cameras.

I believe I saw Granger Ford sells explorers at 4% under invoice.

Good luck getting that price

Oh I'm sure they'll be trying to sell the coatings and the extended warranty and the 8% APR 120 month financing.

If I came home with another Jeep that isn't an SJ Grand Wagoneer I'd be getting served divorce papers by the end of the business day.

I have the lifetime (to the original owner anyway) app on my phone for my truck but I rarely use it.

I almost always use the fob for remote start.

The only time I use the app is when I'm getting back to my vehicle from the airport.

It's nice to have the truck running and cool/running and warm when you step off the courtesy van.

That's the other thing, they make the big money on the financing. If you are paying cash they don't want you. I learned that a long time ago when I was trying to negotiate a deal, when I mentioned I was going to pay cash they were no longer interested in any negotiations at all and the salesman actually told me his manager would just as soon not sell me a vehicle.

I own two Jeeps. I used to own a Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 Diesel engine. Jeep could not make it work. After five turbo chargers, they gave up. Jeep bought it back from me and gave me a deal on a 2012 GC I could not believe. It has every option - leather seats, heat and cool seats, heat steering wheel, high end audio, in cab entertainment system for the gkids, 5.0l hemi, Quadra-Trac, power everything, adaptive cc. They couldn't sell it, so they essentially gave it to me. We use it for highway only. It has 90k miles. New water pump and transfer case under warranty. New transmission last month - $7k. We are keeping it forever.
I drive the '07 LJR. 4.0, 6 spd, two tops. Took me two years to find it. Have had it for 10 years. Nearly stock - new front bumper and winch, new radio. 40k miles. (I'm retired - no DD). We will also keep it forever. It runs great.
I looked at the new Gladiator, just for kicks. I would not buy one at half price. I talked to a couple of guys who had theirs in the dealer's shop. Nothing but problems. No thanks.
Somebody smart and rich will buy the Jeep brand from whoever they are and take it back where it belongs. Or not.

the very few times I shopped new cars I have to keep reminding them I want the cost of the car not the monthly payment. The only time I take a loan out is if it 0% or finance gets me a better price and then I pay it off after 3 payments. My daughters Rogue I bought is $808/mo @ 0% for 36 months.

The friggin glued on ipad in my wife's 16 MB glitched out and when black. It came back a half hour later, told the wife if it glitches again we are dumping the car. Not spending 5-8K to fix this again (went out under warranty once).

This is the key. If you can get 0% interest you are better off keeping your money working for you. Any percent you receive above zero is money ahead.

Most of my cars are not "off the lot" types so I just make 1 payment.

The last Ford App update doesn't work as well as the previous, as I've found out on my 22 F450. Lots of people complaining on the forums, mostly that you can't update your maintenance/service work via the app any longer. To do this now you have to go into the website to add anything. Ford is supposedly working on it but they shouldn't have rolled out the update unless it worked properly.

I have heard that but I don't use any of it. For the most part the only thing I use is the remote start. The update loads so much faster than the last iteration.

I don't see a lot of ways for this to happen, at least within the time any of us would be in the market for one. No one is going to sell it due to the cash cow potential it has, let alone compete with the company that ended up buying it. Stellantis is "too big to fail" at this point so it's unlikely they'd end up in a situation like AMC to get bought out, and they're too big for any government regulating body to sign off on a merger with someone of similar size or even bigger.

Only way I think that happens is a Great Depression-level global financial crisis, or they wring every last drop of customer goodwill out of Jeep to the point that no one is buying them anymore. That could take decades.
