Tom Woods vs JE Reel vs Adams and which SYE?

If you’re close to Pomona just use JE Reel. Unless you really want a “Woody Sticker”

I prefer good welds, timely service, and tolerable pricing. I don't get that from Jim. In fact, I can't get it from any of the 10 or so local and semi-local SoCal driveline shops that I've tried over the years and that includes High Angle.

Yeah me either. What do you think about getting a new front as well?
Maybe, depends on the miles it has on it. The one thing you never want to have happen with the front driveshaft is for its CV (DC) joint to seize up. If it seizes it'll take the transfer case out, literally causing its case to break catastrophically. They sometimes give a little warning with an "angry sparrows chirping" sound but not always.

Went with Woods for front and rear driveshafts and both arrived in a couple days. Packaging was good so everything arrived undamaged. I also have called them a couple times and it’s like talking to your wheeling buddy and not some corporate entity. Cherry on top is their support of our hobby by participating on the forum. Add it all up and there is no need for me to look anywhere else.

As for the sle, I went JBSS, primarily to keep driveline angles minimized for reliability. Only downside is setting up the speedometer isn’t as easy as popping in a different speedo gear like it is with most of the longer SLEs. I have heard on this forum that the process for the jbss isn’t hard, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Is there the same risk for the rear DC? I’d expect that to fail more given the generally higher angle and more regular stress on it for a DD. Either way, it sounds like replacing the joints and centering ball should be on the routine maintenance list. How do you determine the interval?

That wouldn't be a good enough reason for me.

To be clear I’m not knocking the Quality or Service of Tom Woods Driveshafts. JE Reel is local to me
Provided good service and when they need to be serviced I avoid the hassle of packaging then up and paying the freight both ways.

The Woody Sticker was maybe cool
In 1980 unless your the type who likes to make 12 year old boys Giggle

Tom should have asked him parents to change their last name.

Instead of asking Jerry, contact Tom Wood's directly. They will give you all the information you need and then some and will help you make your decision.

For sure. I didn't even know what I needed after swapping in Rubicon axles. Shawn told me what measurements to take, asked me a few questions, and told me what I needed to order. I took his word, placed my order and they fit perfectly.

He knows his stuff.
