the cable that runs down the back rest to actuate the tumble function on my 97-02 seats has too much slack to engage the funtion. do i really have to cut the stitching, replace the entire cable, and stitch it back together?!

No you can cut off the hog rings and pull the top cover off the frame and foam, then replace the seat.

There is also an actuating lever underneath the seat bottom. If you push it upwards, the seat will unlock and tilt forward. It's kinda far back so not really easy to access.

No need to cut anything.
Buy this https://ebay.us/m/NRDN7p
Remove seat
Flip over, fold up upholstery, follow cable path and replace.

PS if you’re doing all that work anyway, order the replacement summit seat foam (top and bottom), and the bushings.

And just do it all at one. 2hrs total.
