Smaller Fan Belt With A/C Compressor Pulled?

I think I know the answer, but asking anyway...

I'm going to replace my A/C compressor, clean out the lines, new orifice tube, etc. I will not be able to do the whole job in one day. If I pull the A/C compressor, I believe with a smaller fan belt (wound correctly), The TJ should be fine until I put the new compressor and lines back in, and switch belts...

Or not?

That's what I'm doing with my 97 at the moment. The clutch on the compressor is blown but I haven't spent the time to swap the compressor.
