@Dave K. found the cause of my occasional clunking . Looks like the bushing is worn. Can I get a replacement bushing? Otherwise daves considering giving me his stock 03 Rubi shocks. Will they work with a 3 inch, which really is more like 2.5 inch lift?

I’m trying to buy time until this summer when I can get it up in the air and do a full assessment of everything before I make any purchasing decisions. So temp solution would be great. Dave has two other sets of shocks one from his 07 rubi also, which is lifted so that might be a better option.?

And when he went to remove the shock so I can compare size to the spar s we have the inside shaft pulled it?? Can it be screwed back in or is it shot now?

We found the set that matches the length of my current shock. Now, I’m totally confused because this shock looks like it was installed upside down from how mine was? What way is this thing supposed to go in? And the bolt I have to secure it on the bottom is way smaller. But if I get a bigger bolt it won’t fit in the holes on the bracket on the jeep? I’m totally lost.

We figured it out. I guess dave did all along, just failed to clue me in and thought I had to do the work but he did. The new to me shocksare way nicer . Might have to put the front ones on to match. Thanks no thanks.

Stock length shocks won't work very well with a 2.5-3" lift. You would lose most of your down travel, to the point where the axle would lift off the ground. The ride would be bad. In fact, that might explain why the old shock is separated.

Nevermind that Skyjacker shocks are notoriously stiff even in the best of circumstances.

Might be stiff, but an improvement from the generic shocks my jeep came with. These will do for now and the shock is actually working when the other one was totally shot, not just the bushing . Yeah, the stock rubi shocks were way too short.

Thanks

The shock that broke and the skyjacker were the same length. So I took the good bushings out of hers and replaced the bad in the skyjacker. She has a lot of down travel but there is only about 3 inches of up travel. Does that sound right or did some one put the wrong length on from the start?
I knew some thing wasn’t right for a few weeks. But didn’t find out what till last night I didn’t have the radio on and got a better ear full. Feels way better now with nothing loose and I think the ride is even better..
