Got a new project in the garage that drives odd.

2004 Sport, almost rust free. 129k on the clock. One of the nearly dozen POs put a budget 2" lift on it. Looks old.

When driving at any speed any quick steering input makes the rear of the vehicle wiggle. If feels very unstable but its drivable.

It had oem sized tires that were rough, after changing out to new rubber no difference.

It feels like bad rear track bar bushing.

Its about to go on jack stands to install a 2.5 spring lift and every suspension part. New oem style control arms, track bars, shocks, sway bar links and bushings. Hope that fixes it but would like to be on the look out for the cause to be sure I correct.

Anyone have similar wiggly rear?

Btw thanks for all the content. Been a lurker for about a year. This is my 7th jeep build, second TJ.

Thanks George

I think I'll hold off answering until you slowly put the loaded parts canon down.

That being said...yes, I agree with your choices...

If you don't narrow it down to the specific part causing the problem before you replace everything, you'll never know.

Pry against the track bar joints, and every other joint, find the mushiest one. Replace that part first and test drive, until you nail the culprit.

Then fire the parts canon. :)

Update.
The old budget lift rubber blocks were rotten. So that may have been a factor but I think the front end alignment made the difference. I think it was darting around which made the rear have to react.

If you’re changing out control arms then be sure and examine the bolt holes that where the bolts go through the brackets attached to the frame. These holes can get elongated and allow slack which lets your axle shift forward or to the rear. When this happens it causes axle misalignment and can cause wobble issues. Your problem can also be from worn out control arm bushings which will allow the same wobble to occur. Be sure and tighten the bolts for the control arms enough so they can’t allow for movement as the movement will only lead to wear. Adjustable control arms are you best bet to achieve proper axle alignment and equal lift all around.
