Beech Creek Trail is great , not too technical but lots of fun . It's been a few years since running it and about half the K-trail . We've run them both a few times , much fun . Hopefully we'll get to see them again soon . Some of the trails at Wolf Pen Gap near Mena Arkansas are open to highway legal vehicles . Those are nice to ride , but it's better to run those on a weekday because on the weekends the ATV's are flying all over the place . There are lots of trails in the vicinity , most of them are not difficult but enjoyable . You have to study the Forest Service MVUM to verify which ones are open . It's a shame that so many of the great Forest Service roads have been closed . Maybe Trump can Make Forest Service Roads Great Again :)

I poked around for an afternoon in the Mena area last year and picked a clearing in the woods to watch the solar eclipse. Just wish it wasn't 5 hours away.

Never been to merus, can't wait to hear a review.

How much of K-trail is open these days?

My understanding of the K trail is the same as what @freedom_in_4low mentioned. The best part of the trail is now a wind farm. I’ve possibly found an alternative around Clayton that looks like it could be fun, but I don’t know if we’ll have time to check it out this trip.

Merus is in the Texas panhandle a little south of Amarillo. It’s in the Caprock Canyons.

I’m not from OK so excuse me for perusing your thread and butting in, but I do highly recommend Merus. Amarillo is an absolute snore-fest, but Merus is a very beautiful park with a wide range of trail difficulty and enough trail miles to keep you busy for a few days, technical and scenic. I just went in November and loved it. I would avoid summer.

Posted this in the Texas thread also -

Looks like the "Huckleberry" trail at MERUS is now Texas' 4th Jeep Badge of Honor trail/park. It's got to be recent, because when I did Black Gap back in February, Huckleberry wasn't on the Texas BoH map.

Youtube vids show a pretty gnarly rock garden. Not sure if my TJ on 32's would make it.

So, it's official! TaTJana, the 2006 Wrangler came home today amidst all the storms and rain!

Now, it's time to order a few maintenance items - valve cover gasket, Crankshaft/Camshaft position sensor (P0016 CEL), front and rear pinion seals, plugs, and then do a full fluid change. That'll keep me busy for a few. Next is to find half doors and a soft top to replace the full doors with half doors, pull out the carpet and replace the bumper abomination.

Yessir. I think a couple of door seals and the windshield header area might have a small leak. Then again, if it doesn't leak, squeak or rattle, it's not a Jeep 😁

The summer months are extremely busy for me so I won’t be making it, but thanks for sharing it. I’m not on Facebook so I didn’t know anything about it. That’s a lot of ground to cover in three days.

it is. especially considering the first spot, Gruber, is 3 hours from me, and the last time I tried a big group like that, they took 12 hours to ride 15 miles and do one trail.

Apparently the road trip from Twin Mountains to Crossbar includes running the south Canadian riverbed...hopefully optional, 'cause that's gonna be a $#!+ show the way that sand/mud mixture grabs onto things. I'ts hard enough walking through it without stepping right out of my boots...can't imagine trying to get a 4k lb rig out of it.

This is the first time the host has done an off road event. We'll see how it plays. The last park, Crossbar, is 3hrs from me as well. Fortunately I'll have a support rig following along.

You gonna run it @freedom_in_4low

undecided. I'm considering it if my coworker buddy sacks up and takes his TJ. If he wusses out and takes his SxS on 35s then I'm probably out.

Hope to see ya there if possible! I'll be in my silver LJ with a tag that reads TjLong

@Mrholland A few of us are heading to RMR and Green Acres the weekend of Sept 26. We will be arriving RMR Thursday night and wheeling RMR all day and night on Friday Sept 26 and then packing up Sat morning and heading to Green Acres to wheel there all day night on Sat Sept 27. There would be a slight chance that we call an audible and just stay at RMR but won't know until we see what happens and what type of carnage we end up with.

I know you said you wanted to come back for some redemption.

Ah man!!!!! Ill be running the Palo Duro challenge outside of Amarillo that weekend.

We just finished the Rubicon trail, literally just made it back to civilization.
