Oklahoma Oklahoma members

I still check in some and receive notifications. Haven’t been as active but have just been driving the LJ instead of working on it 🤣 I do have all the parts to rebuild the front end so at some point I’ll do that and be back around.

Hey guys, I just moved to OK a couple months ago and am disappointed to see there's no sticky thread for Oklahoma members unlike where I used to live. Looks like this thread is the closest thing. Anybody here still active?

I think I'm our most active Oklahoma member.

Where'd you move from? We've got parks but it feels like a 4 wheeling wasteland compared to Colorado.

We've been running camp gruber a lot lately, usually on Fridays. If anyone is around northeast oklas, come with us!

It'll probably be another month or so, but yes. I'd love to join. Years ago, back when I had my JK, we had a group that often got together at an open area near Tinker off Douglas Blvd for some light wheeling. Though I think that place closed years ago.

The TJ I'm looking at is pretty stock as far as lift and such goes. The previous owner used it to go fishing and had some funny push bar welded on to the front bumper and a light bar installed.

But it currently has a valve cover leak that I'll need to address and fix as well as a P0016 CEL. Once I do some maintenance on it, I'll be ready to join up. Is Camp Gruber pretty technical or?

CEL means it's running!! 😆 It's more technical than folks expect. However, we're happy to plan the trip around the least built jeep though!

🤣🤣 you have a point!! I'd hate to have that CEL turn into a dead motor on the trail though. I'd heard about Camp Gruber from a few friends that used to take their ATVs and side by sides. I just want to avoid the hairy, technical stuff until I put a lift on the TJ. My plan was an OME 2.5" with 33s once I get the preliminary maintenance stuff handled.

Last couple.of years a lot of work has gone into making gruber a great place to spend the day.

Drop a msg in here when you're ready and we'll make it happen! 33s on a 93in WB is a good combo!!

Just found this thread. Good to know that there’s a few other Okies around. I’m heading over to SE Oklahoma in a couple of weeks for some of the Quachita forest trails. Planning on doing the K trail and the Beech Creek trail. I don’t expect anything technical, but I always enjoy the area. I’m also looking at planning a quick trip to Merus sometime fairly soon. Any of you guys been to Merus before? It’ll be my first time, but I’ve hauled horses out to the Texas canyons area. It’s beautiful country to experience on horseback.

Never been to merus, can't wait to hear a review.

How much of K-trail is open these days?

I've never heard of Merus either. And it's been some 12-13 years since I last did part of the K-Trail back when I had my 07 JK. Ouachita mountains do have some nice trails.

My understanding is about half of it. I've never done it, but the way it appears based on the Internet is the better half of it was closed due to the landowner leasing the land to an energy company for a wind farm, and now the trail is their private access road. Which probably means if it ever opens again it'll have been graded down to a boring dirt road.

Beech Creek Trail is great , not too technical but lots of fun . It's been a few years since running it and about half the K-trail . We've run them both a few times , much fun . Hopefully we'll get to see them again soon . Some of the trails at Wolf Pen Gap near Mena Arkansas are open to highway legal vehicles . Those are nice to ride , but it's better to run those on a weekday because on the weekends the ATV's are flying all over the place . There are lots of trails in the vicinity , most of them are not difficult but enjoyable . You have to study the Forest Service MVUM to verify which ones are open . It's a shame that so many of the great Forest Service roads have been closed . Maybe Trump can Make Forest Service Roads Great Again :)
