I have a Jeep trunk by Bestop. It’s the best thing since sliced bread for keeping your gear from going anywhere. If there’s any air space after I’m done loading I stick a towel in there. Keeps everything snug and quiet. Strap the cooler down. You’ll be good.
I have a big aluminum box in the rear of my TJ but they're not easy to find now. Inside I keep several canvas bags for recovery tools and tools inside, they make finding what you need easier. I usually remove the recovery tool bag from the box when wheeling so it's easier to get to when needed. This is while I was installing it 13-14 years ago right after buying this TJ before I put the carpeting back in. By the way Harbor Freight Tools has a really great assortment of various sizes and types of canvas bags.
I also keep a backpack of all my recovery gear snapped to the rear roll bar on one side and on the other I have a backpack that is all first aid gear.
Both easily accessible if needed but attached to the roll bar so they don't go anywhere if I don't want them to.

Bartact makes cut to fit Molle Velcro rolls, great for attaching small/medium pouch's to the carpet or Bedrug.
- Between drivers seat and door I have a pouch with soft shackle and winch remote
- Drivers side footwell has a pouch with emergency food/water (the marine water pouches are great)
- Between pass seat and door, full first aid kit
- Seat cover pockets have misc straps, zip ties, etc...
- Under rear seat, tarp, blanket, things that won't hurt me if I roll
- Trail backpack has, snatch block, tree saver, kinetic rope, gloves, etc...
- Instatrunk has things that will hurt me if I roll. Toolbox, compressor, etc..+ Dry bag with seasonal cloths, bug net, USO 9hr candle lantern, body wipes, etc..
I now have all of my recovery gear in a Milwaukee Packout (I do have an LJ). Here is a photo of before the packout was changed to that duty officially, you can see i carried an old Husky soft tool bag. The Packout box was only brought on long trips where i thought tools would be needed. I have since consolidated my work tool kit to be able to use the packout solely for recovery gear andtools. I just have to grab my Makita impact and throw it in the recovery box before i head out, maybe an extra battery.
The Husky bag was also getting cramped, and couldn't carry things like tools and wrenches due to all the straps. air hose and d-rings. The Packout expanded the storage space a lot, and it fits snuggly in the bac of my LJ HEHEHE

Just don’t forget to have the most needed items close and easily accessible.

Negative, it just has a bungie going over the top. Its mounted on the right side of the trunk with a bungie through the rear cargo hook by the tailgate and child restrain hoop immediately behing the rear seat. Again, this is in an LJ with the rear seat installed. You'd have to remove the rear seat to throw it in a TJ, I'm sure.
I keep all of those items, plus my air up/down kit and my first aid kit behind the driver's seat where they can easily be accessed. I also have two fire extinguishers - one within reach of the driver and one at the rear hatch.
Fire extinguisher is smart. I think that’s my next mod after the tranny swap, beadlocks mounted, and engine skid.
I use a small 32" box bolted to the floor with 8 nutserts. The soft shackles are looped around the roll bar behind my seat, and the winch controller sits between the driver seat and door. Everything goes in the box. I use the stock footman loops to secure my cooler.
Hopefully your jeep or your campsite won't burn to a crisp before you get to that point.
Well, the tranny may take awhile so it’s garaged now (no adventures). The beadlock mounting and engine skid will take 1 day!
