Off Road Equipment Storage Question

I use a small 32" box bolted to the floor with 8 nutserts. The soft shackles are looped around the roll bar behind my seat, and the winch controller sits between the driver seat and door. Everything goes in the box. I use the stock footman loops to secure my cooler.

Where'd you get that box!!?? 😍 That's the same as the 'Jeep Box' I inside into my previous (stolen) TJ and loved it! I couldn't find another so I ended up with the cheap Harbor Freight Tools box in my above photo.

This is what I built for my TJ, sold it and the owner still uses it. Planning on an improved version for the LJ. I'm having trouble finding the best size/durability of the plastic boxes. It is bolted to the seat mounts, with tailgate locked more secure that most other vehicles. I used to drive the shooting range with no top/doors. Because I could.

Gosh, its been 4 or 5 years since that has been installed. I think I picked it up on eBay. IIRC, I was originally searching for an "ATV toolbox" and the one I have popped up. I have an inch or two on either side of the wheel wells. Its got a couple of side handles, I just have a bungy cord strap across the back to each one to keep them from rattling (and to secure my sub🤫 )

Basically exactly what I am looking at doing, plastic bins and all. Can slide the bins in and out to get stuff as needed instead of trying to dig way underneath to find it. Plus offers “some” security when the tailgate is closed.

Never got around to doing this myself but I liked this guys idea of a foam sheet you cut to fit what you want. Don’t have to listen to tools rocking around all day and you can glance at it and know if anything is missing. I’m bad about borrowing something from a “trail toolbox” and not always getting it returned right away. You could do it a couple ways- a shallow drawer box that other stuff could stack on, or modular boxes that could just be strapped down.

I don't have a backseat in the Muddog, I've even removed the hardware. To that end, I have this. This is my normal "Grocery Getter" daily setup, but everything comes out and can be replaced as needed. It's also relatively secure.

I really like this system, and the bulk head up front. I need to find a good carpenter buddy 😁

Andy, I’ve had a Bestop saddlebag that sits out of the way on the wheel wells and makes for excellent storage for small items, tire plug kit, tire deflator, recovery gear, etc. You can put one over each wheel well and they fit with the back seat in or out. I recommend it, but I think they have hiked the price since I bought it.

It's actually really easy and not as elegant as you might think.
The front bulkhead is not form fitted. If you look at it, you can see where the sides end, and the opening is covered up by the carpet. The 2X3 crosspiece is only mounted by the two angle brackets you can see, and the front bulkhead is fastened to the front of it.
The top is just plywood cut to fit where it can fold up as you see it with cabinet hinges screwed into the 2X3 cross braces. The 2X3s that run along side of the tub are anchored by ONE sheetmetal screw several inches from the rear.
If you have a circular saw, you can do this.
Here's how it opens. I consider it fairly secure because you can't get to the release chain unless the tailgate is open. The slide latches have a spring in them to hold them closed.

UWS also makes one and I have one in my Jeep. It is made for UTVs but is a good size (32") for the TJ. Prices have gone up in last few years. When I got it it was ~200. I changed the lock out with one made by Bolt that can take my factory key.

Nice, especially how you adapted it to work with your ignition key!! I ultimately found similar boxes by Dee Zee and now yours but wow current versions have become too much $$$ for my budget.

Though this was well over 20 years ago I still am hampered by knowing what I paid for the original "Jeep Box" I installed into my previous TJ which for used was only $75 locally. It's sitting on a Tuffy security drawer I had back then. Too bad Jeepbox.com went out of business.

All that foam takes up too much room for me to even consider that for the TJ. I throw my metric tools in one bag and SAE tools in another bag so they don't consume nearly that much volume.
