Need Cooling Help for Hemi Swap

So the shop is going to replace the radiator? Don't want to just assume... And also is going to attempt the mechanical fan swap? Correct, the shop is replacing the radiator and we are going to a mechanical fan setup.

Good time to be replacing the radiator... Agreed, knock them both out at the same time.

When the one on my TJ froze up I had death wobble.... Had a hell of a time getting that old heim off that trackbar too... Had to replace the entire track bar when it happened to mine. Just to keep it easy, we're doing the same thing, even though I know the suspension kit will come with its own track bar.

Figure out your MAX tire size first... I thought I'd never go above 35" tires... Now I'm running 38" tires and LOVE them... Don't know I'll ever make it to 40's or not. On this rig, I need it to be "daily driver" capable, so I'm going to stick with 35s. I'm hoping to go to 37s on my CJ-6 build....hoping that scratches my big tire itch (are 37s even considered "big" anymore?)

Answers above.....

I guess I'd missed that being the confirmed course of action. And I wasn't sure if you were doing this work or if it was being farmed out.

Understood, and makes sense!

Here's the deal, and honestly, it's a sweet one. The owner doesn't want to sell until it's been gone through for any needed repairs, as it has been sitting for about four or five years. All the repairs listed above were the items he wanted taken care of. The reason I'm involved is because the owner asked me to work with the shop on the course of action for the cooling. His words to me were "let's see if AEV or AMW has a kit we can use to just upgrade the whole damn system." Neither of those existed, but most shops who had successful swaps used the mechanical setup, so that's the route we decided. This is all maintenance he was going to do anyway, I'm just giving him the nudge..... ;)

Well it's COOL that he's fixing the issues first.

It does seem a shame these businesses that made a living off of these swaps just gave up on them... But I guess it's just the way of things.

I'd forgotten about this YT video.

I missed that video! That would have been a big help! Oddly enough, that's the exact setup we ended up going with. Jeep Speed Shop has removed all TJ items from their website, but I reached out via email and got the radiator and fan setup they used, and in one of the hemi swap threads, they referenced the part numbers for the hoses Jeep Speed Shop used. The radiator took forever to come in, but it has finally arrived, the shroud came quickly, the new A/C condenser has arrived, as well as the new track bar. The repairs should be completed this week!

Update.......shop can't work on the cooling system yet because it won't run now. They believe the ECM has gone out. I know that TJs have an issue with ECMs, and they are hard to find. But I don't know what ECM AEV used for their swaps. I've reached out to them.....hopefully it's a COTS part! Fingers crossed.....

Quick search calls at the 2005 NGC3 ECM. Hoping that it's a plug and play. I hope AEV didn't have to customize it.

Do you know any detail on the Hemi? Year, original vehicle?

My guess is that given it's and old AEV conversion, it's a Gen 3. The Dodge ECM that works with the Gen II and also the rest of the stock Jeep wiring, gauges and such, is the 2005 (back to 2003, maybe? Not sure). I run an '06 Gen III Hemi, with a 2005 ECM. The 2006+ Dodge ECM's will not work with the stock Jeep gauges and such.

It's my understanding that they plucked the engine off of the assembly line, and I believe it was destined for a 2005 Ram 1500.

It’s unlikely that the PCM has failed. What are the symptoms?
Let us know if wranglerfix does offer a pcm for the hemi swap. That could be useful information.
The pcm that is known to fail on the TJ is different than the pcm for the hemi. Even though they’re both NGC3 pre-CAN bus.
The pcm for a 2005 Ram 5.7 would run yours but you’ll have to have it flashed with the VIN and make sure the SKIM is selected or deselected in the pcm to match your Jeep

According to the shop, it wouldn't start. They finally got it started, but there is no throttle. In communication with AEV, they agreed, they felt it was either a bad ground, or it could be their proprietary "jumper" computer they installed to control the AC and cruise control. The shop has traced the wiring, so they are confident they have checked the grounds. Good grief!

JSS has been a big help for me when I was doing the swap plus figuring out the parts I need for the 8HP70 swap...

Even if Hotwire wasn't helping AEV I'd reach out to them for some advice/troubleshooting ideas to determine if it is the PCM.

Obvious things are to trying disconnecting & then reconnecting the battery
Unplugging & replugging in the 4 plugs on the PCM.
Checking to make sure all the pins in each plug on the PCM are in place and not pushed in.
Accelerator pedal &/or plug

Damn, I wonder how AEV's wiring is different than Hotwire?

Hope they can get it figured out...

I don't think they offer a PCM for the Hemi swap but I think they can do repairs on the PCM. I don't know what Hotwire does when they reflash the PCM since I never thought to ask them.
Why would it need to be flashed with the VIN? This was discussed with the Magnum swaps too and I've ran both a PCM without my VIN & one with it in my TJ. The PCM I have in my TJ now was flashed with the VIN belonging to the TJ I took the Hemi out of and runs.

The reason for the VIN would be to allow the SKIM security to function. If you don't have a SKIM module, then it must be turned off in the PCM. If you have a SKIM module then the VIN must match.

OK... Mine didn't have SKIM since it was a SE model & a 97. For those that are using their rig as a DD type situation then I can see where the SKIM is more of a desired feature.

Mark at Wranglerfix says he's got the ECM I need!

The Jeep starts, but it's got no cam signal, so it takes a bit of cranking before starting. It's receiving zero signal from the pedal assembly, including having tried a brand new pedal. All grounds have been traced, etc.
