I just saw a really detailed radiator review from member @Irun who has used several different radiator types in his rebuilds. In his thread he mentioned liking Koyorad A2798 a lot, as well as the Koyorad A2102 and several others. In particular, the Koyorad brand sounded attractive to me…. It’s described as being reliable, quality built and what I interpreted as being as good as the discontinued OEM Mopar.

However, if you look at the dimensions of the 2 Koyorad radiators that were recommended they are significantly different….

The A2798 core is around 26” wide x 17” tall x 1” thick with plastic extending width wise another approximate 4”. Meanwhile, the A2102 core is around 19.5” wide x 18” tall x 1.3” thick with plastic extending on top and bottom adding another 3”. The A2102 also has what looks like a bracket (similar to what I currently have in my Jeep), that adds another 6”-7” total in width.

Inlet dimensions are fairly close with a 1/16” ID larger difference in the A2798 at 1-5/16”. Outlet dimensions are more varied with the A2798 being 3/16” smaller than the A2102 (1-1/2”), at 1-5/16” ID.

In my 2005 4.0L, the current radiator measures with the core at around 20.5” wide x 19” tall x 2” thick…. Plastic extends about another 2” in width, 4” total in height and another inch in thickness. It’s then positioned in a bracket that extends out 27” wide total with cutouts for headlamp nuts. Inlet ID looks around 1-1/4” and outlet ID at 1-1/2”. Hopefully these dimensions are close to other members’ Jeeps and I don’t have a “spotted zebra” under my hood….

Of the 2 radiators, the A2102 matches my existing radiator’s dimensions best and possibly others (?). Meanwhile, the A2798 would be a very tight squeeze width wise, but a very spacious radiator below leaving around 7-8” open space with probably just a little lost to re-stuff things that the greater width had forced to move out of the way. (???)

Of the 2 radiators, I was getting the sense that the A2798 was preferred over the A2102 for those very talented rebuild members.

My question is which one do members like best collectively and why? And if the A2798 is the preferred leader from experience and performance, are their tips on; 1) fitment - especially width wise, 2) what everyone is doing with the space below, 3) what fan shroud would you need, 4) what fan size/clutch would you need, and 5) what speciality bracket or hardware might be needed?

And thank you EVERYONE for clarifying. I really needed the reinforcing statements to help with the selection process here.

I saw that particular part number A2798 in a comparison chart. Problem may have been that I had been searching the forum for quality radiator replacements for the discontinued MOPAR. “Search” took me to lots of different places including to this great build thread, which had the most solid well experienced info on replacement options I had seen.

Unfortunately, “search” took me to page 68 way into a longer thread that was specific to some amazing mods. Since I grabbed onto that part number and went exploring, I noticed just how different the configuration was for the TJ….

It is why I asked here. I wanted to understand that there wasn’t a very specific reason that I shouldn’t be getting the A2798 and making the efforts of seriously modifying it into the system because it would be of extreme benefit to my Jeep.

Unfortunately, I probably read much out of context…..

Seems a shame so many OEM parts have been discontinued. Yes, my Jeep is 20 years old now; however, I’m still surprised. Unlike working on my Toyota (also just as old), working on the Jeep - even for just maintenance items, has been more an exercise in finding quality part replacements than the mechanics….. LOL! 😝

Anyways…. Radiator puzzle piece solved thanks to the great people of this forum.

P.S. If I become a supporting member, are you allowed to trade parts between each other?IMG_1462.jpeg

@RooGal, I am glad you brought this up. I had bought the A2798 an it will not work. Ended up getting the A2102 from rockauto for a 05. They don't list one for the 06. Part Geeks do show the A2798 for my 06, that's why I got it. I am returning it to rockauto tomorrow. It Just pushes the job back a week, gives me more time to clean the area up. Thanks..

That’s where the A2798 number came from! You’re a genius @oldjeepman! Part Geeks had the number wrong, the “poops”. 🙄

Sorry you had some inconvenience….
