I’m doing revolution 5.13 in a LJ rubicon 44 front. For the pattern I have I added .007 under the pinion bearing while using the factory .055 slinger. I have backlash set at .008. It seems like the coast side could be a touch closer to the root but don’t love the sharp line on bottom of drive side. I had a .010 shim under bearing and the line on drive side was sharper and there was no rounding as it moved to the top. What do the experts say?

Experts say start with what was in there. You're too deep. Try it first with what was in there...

That was where I started, everything that was in it stock as far as shims. With just the slinger and the factory carrier shims I was getting where the pattern extended to the tip of the gear. I then added .010 and set the backlash and it seemed to deep. So I went to .005 and it seemed to be too close to the tip. I then tried .007 which is what is shown. I will try going back to the .005 under pinion bearing and go from there. Thanks for the help!

So I went back to stock, .055 slinger, .008 backlash and got this

lol, I appreciate all the help from everyone, I’m sorta a dummy when it comes to posting stuff.

Yeah, didn't want to mislead you, I'm here to learn what the experts say too, not to advise. So now we wait...

Out of curiosity is it the bottom edge of the mark that makes the first set better, I see it is a little more rounded or moon shaped that the set with .002 added?

The first pattern has nice diffuse rounded edges. The second pattern starts to develop the line at the root indicating it's deep. On the first pattern, you can see that triangular pattern within the overall pattern. Don't pay attention to that, rather focus on the outside of the pattern where everything is nice round edges top and bottom. Patterns don't always line up in the center of the tooth. That can be towards the heel or toe and still be acceptable as in this case.

So this is what I ended up with on final assembly when I got rid of setup race. Does it still look good or is it a touch shallow? View attachment 601270View attachment 601271View attachment 601270

If you're going to call that shallow, it's by .001 thou. Not enough to change it in my opinion after seeing what .002 thou did to it previously.

If you have a shim combination that will let you move .001 thou you can try it but I wouldn't worry about running this pattern.

That makes sense, trying to avoid the sharp line and have it fade in more.

I’m happy with it. Thank you for the help. That makes complete sense about the diffuse edge.
