Good afternoon - I hope everyone is having a nice Easter weekend.
I'm trying to identify a parasitic draw in my 2005 TJ. I got the multimeter out, disconnected the negative terminal from the battery, and completed the circuit with the multimeter while reading for amps. Then I pulled the fuses one by one to look for any changes, and when I pulled "Access. 1" from under the hood box, the reading dropped from 3.2 to 0.3. No other fuses showed any changes in the reading when pulled, so I'm working under the assumption that "Access. 1" is my culprit.
I know it's "accessory", but I can't find much info about what it is actually tied to online. One site says it typically not used unless something is installed aftermarket, while a YouTube video (which seemed more reliable, tbh) showed a diagram where it is tied to the "dome lamp, instrument cluster, data link connector, axle lock switch (off-road package), courtesy lamp, compass/temperature mirror, and underhood lamp (10A)". Of note, the fuse currently in place is a 15A, so that tells me it was at least changed at some point by the previous owner.
As the YT vid diagram looked much more professional than a Reddit comment, I've been trying to evaluate the items it mentioned. I know the previous owner installed an aftermarket mirror, but never connected the temp/compass bit. My dome lamp appears to be working normally and is not staying on after the car is off (not longer than it should be, anyway). I don't see anything staying on on the instrument cluster when the Jeep is off, but I assume there could be something behind the scenes. Honestly, I don't know what or where the data link connector is or if I have one, and I don't know how to tell if the Jeep has the off-road package. Based on shapes and photos online, it appears (pretty certain) the Jeep has a Dana 44 rear axle and a Dana 30 front, but that's all I can tell. No locker switches inside. The courtesy lamp seems to work normally, like the dome lamp. There is no underhood lamp present, although the wiring and plug is in place if I wanted to add one (honestly didn't know that was an option until now, and seems like it would be pretty helpful).
So based on my basic review, if the YT video diagram is accurate, the wrong size fuse is being used, but none of the things it that would be part of that circuit are jumping out as potential culprits. Any initial thoughts based on what I've provided? And how would you recommend I continue the investigation from here?
Thanks!!
JR
