Hi guys, it’s been a bit since my last post but I’m finally back to working on my daughters TJ frame ip rebuild after a couple month hiatus for work and other life happenings. Things are going pretty smoothly at the moment and I just put the body back on the frame after doing the NV3350 to 32rh swap (I hope I’m done anyway lol) and the last thing that I know of that I need to do to complete the swap is change the ECM to one for an automatic, which should be fine considering I have a donor vehicle that I got all the goodies from for the swap to get one off of but I got to thinking last night that I might have a conundrum as the current TJ is a 2000 and the TJ that the automatic came out of is a 98 and it has a distributor which the 2000 doesn’t. I looked through the threads I could find from others that did the swap but I didn’t see anyone with this situation, or at least I don’t remember seeing it and I wanted to see if anyone knew if this is going to be an issue. I don’t have any knowledge of ECMs and how they are programmed etc but I know some of the gurus here will be able to help me out. If I need to find another ECM or get mine worked on now would be the time before I finish getting it all back together and finding out then. Thanks in advance and I can’t wait to get this project finished and post up pics!!

So you swapped in the auto and changed the 2000 harness so the neutral saftey, etc would work right?

You can send your 98 computer into us and we can reprogram it for an automatic and everything will work just fine. It is a 24 hour turnaround time.

Do you mean program the 2000 pcm for an auto? Or is the 98 one more desirable as far as hardware inside?

So I had a 2000 with a manual that had a bent frame but everything else was in extremely great shape and my daughter had a 98 with an automatic that had really bad rust everywhere except the frame - it was completely rust free somehow. I basically did a frame swap and am going to use the 2000, but swapped the manual for the 32rh. I used everything from the 98 for the trans swap with a ton an assistance from threads here where others have done the swap. The pigtail from the wiring harness on the 98 plugged right in to the wiring harness on the 2000 - I saw in some of the threads that others had harnesses with 2 wires instead of 3 and had to do a little bit of rewiring but it looks like I was one of the lucky ones, or at least I’m really hoping so. As far as the ECM I don’t know if he’ll need the one that’s currently in the 2000 that is programmed for a manual, or the one from the 98 that’s already automatic but has a distributor, I was going to message him tonight to make sure I send the correct one.

The 1998 is the one that will work for you. That particular ecm works for 2.5, 4.0, auto or manual.
