Eaton E-Locker vs Truetrac

Gotcha, that makes more sense.

What about using your Jeep offroad? What kinds of trails/ terrain are you looking to conquer where a locker would be useful?

We have a wide range here in northern CA, many trails of varying difficulty and terrain. I want to be able to take on some of the challenging trails, but nothing likely too extreme unless I go bigger than my 31" tires and H&R ~1" lift. And if I went with bigger tires I would probably re-gear again.

Not to throw more on your plate right now, but there's a lot of money to be saved in time/ effort/ labor if you can combine the re-gearing with the new differentials. Just saying...

Yep. That’s what I’m doing right now, going from 3.73 to 4.56. If I go to a bigger lift and tires later, I will probably want to regear again.

I would never attempt to run lockers at highway speeds.

I was asking about whether there is a significant benefit to having TrueTrac on snowy highways vs. just regular 4WD (open/open), assuming good tires and reasonable driving.

Thanks for sharing your perspective.

I had read about the Dana 30 being preloaded. I was giving a lot of thought to TT front / ELocker rear. Then in the snow I would get the benefit from TT in front. I just don’t know if it would be a significant benefit over just 4WD. And I don’t know if it would act weird with TT in front and Open rear in those conditions.

As I suggested before if I was doing this I would put the selectable locker in the front and the TruTrac in the rear. The benefit to having the TruTrac in the rear in snowy conditions is that you'd end up having to use 4WD less often. Right now with open differentials if one tires is on ice it is the wheel that will spin while the other wheel on dry pavement just sits there. The TruTrac would allow some power to go to both wheels. But if you aren't having issues now and drive around just fine then there isn't any reason to add it. Just run ELockers in both axles.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I’m going with the Eaton E-Lockers.

Someone on here talked about a new design, ELockers 4, supposed to be more rapid locking like an ARB. I looked around and could only find that in the Dana 44 application and not the Dana 30
☝🏼This is what I chose

I don't think any selectable locker is made for going doing the freeway at 60-70 MPH nor do I know of any time I'd want to do this. But I'm going to go back and read my ARB install/operating manual just to see what it says.
Mine see 80 in the interstate all the time, so do most Toyota’s with an elocker from from the factory.

If you look back in the discussion we were talking about them being engaged and what is the maximum recommended speed.
Why is this even a question worthy of serious discussion? There is no need to run a selectable locker locked on the street or highway where high rates of speed are appropriate. We have open differentials for normal driving like that. Those driving 80 mph aren't doing so with locked selectable lockers.

Go back and read the THREAD. I'm not gunna try to explain it to your ass.

WTF? I read the thread and asked a simple question and you reply like that?

No Jerry you acted like you always do. Read where this part of the discussion happened and what you said was already said.

Seems when I ask SIMPLE questions I get tons of CRAP too.

did you end up with tt in the front and e-locker in rear? If so, how did you like it?

Mainly the tt in front, curious on it for winter conditions

I would do the opposite. The locker really shines when you lift a tire, and I lift front tires a lot more than I lift rear, and there have been obstacles that I couldn't get up with only the rear locked, but are a breeze with the front locked and rear open.
