California specific engine swap vs stroker

I was told by russ and several reputable tuners it would be a waste of time and money to do more than bigger injectors unless i wanted to run on premium fuel. Passes emissions just fine

OK. Since I had a 4 cyl the only performance mods I'd ever considered for it was a supercharger or turbo.

For my stroker I'm being told I need a different tune along with bigger injectors but my internals aren't any where NEAR stoke so that may have some to do with it. Plus the intake & headers.

My main concern when it came to more power was to drive it on the highway and keep a steady speed. The stock 4.0 would lag with any rise in the road, forget about a mountain road. Off road, the 4.0 has plenty of power and torque so that was never an issue. I also require it to pass smog. Between these two requirements, I went with the stroker. Now that it's nearly complete I'll soon be able to tell if it meets the requirements. I will be disappointed if it doesn't.

I just posted in the other thread but I'm pretty happy with the way the stroker turned out. Here are the specs:

4.7 stroker
forged Racetec pistons (.030 over)
Scat forged rods
Comp Cams 163.301.5 nitrided cam
12wt crank
Harland Sharp roller rockers (1.6)
LS valves
chamber opened up
Full port head (intake port matched)
Intake manifold port matched
Bosch 24lb injectors
BBK 62mm throttle body
Banks Torque Tube (Header)

let me know how you like that header
Russ Pottenger recommends using the Banks header for his builds. In order to pass smog inspection I needed a CARB compliant header which the Banks one is. As long as it doesn't crack I'll be a happy customer.

I am surprised they said a tune would be a waste. The timing table under higher load is very conservative. When you need more power the ECM is pulling timing. This is a stock timing table for a 2004. A member posted a 2005 table and it was the same. 395.4 torr is about 53 kPa.

Different animal isn't it? I'll have to look up that cam,I'm not familiar with comps new numbering system. I used a 231 custom ground to russes spec and nitrided.
Is the throttle touchy with the bbk tb?

It isn't. I was running an Edge 62mm TB before. I changed it since the Edge is not CARB compliant.
