Basket's Build

I think you’re right Trevor. Probably the water pump. Are you getting any leak at the weep hole? What coolant are you running? And when was the last time you changed it? If you pull the pump post, some pictures of what you find.

I couldn't see any leak, but it's hard to see down there. I am losing coolant and I'm not sure where (not in oil) so it could be weeping. IIRC last time it failed it didn't drip and I couldn't see it coming out of the weep hole, but when I got it out it was obvious it had been weeping and just drying on the water pump body before dripping.

Changed it in early 2021, and my tstat is from early 2023, but both were parts store variety "oh crap I need this part NOW" type replacements.

I'm running the uhhh dexron 5 I think it is? Same coolant I've always ran since my last flush

Yeah I guess I can just do both at the same time, tstats are cheap. Probably do another flush while I'm at it and emptying the block

Try removing the thermostat, putting it in water on stove with a temp gauge and bring it up to boil at your ATM and see when it opens. If it’s not opening at 195 it’s a bad thermostat.

If it is then move to the water pump. Cheapest route.

Coolant leak makes me think it’s the pump too, but I’d still check the thermostat, especially since it’s right there and makes getting to the pump a bit easier. 🙁

I like that approach. Even though the thermostat is an expensive, it’s good to test the part to see if that’s really the flaw so you know what’s going on.

Good call. I think I even have some extra gaskets for the housing laying around so that's an easy one. It would be nice to know what fixed it, put our diagnosing skills to the test!!

My house is the blue dot. They already pulled the pre-evac so hoping that means it's already contained, but idk forsure. Definitely makes you review all the mitigation stuff you've done (and could've done) real quick.

Been there. Start thinking about what you need/want to grab and do it. Its an uneasy feeling.

Arvada isn't close but if you need a place...

Hope it all gets put out. Its currently pouring rain up here.

Thank you! Really appreciate it. I'll keep an eye but hoping lifting preevac means it's done for, just don't have much experience.

It does also look like it is going to rain here so that will help. I am lucky that there is a fire station at the entrance to the neighborhood

I had to evacuate my house in 2013..
Not a good feeling.
I loaded stuff in my motorhome then but after we'd left realized I should of/could have taken more.
Hope you're safe.

Yeah sounds scary! Having a motorhome to leave in was probably nice at least. I was wishing I had kept my flat towing stuff for the Jeep for a minute there 🤣

in addition to fuels reduction-

Fine screens for your attic and underhouse vents. You can get shutters that close for those situations too. Sparks in your attic are very bad. If nothing else some painters tape on all those openings before you leave is a good idea. No firewood near your house, flammable decks, etc. Turn off propane at the tank and power.

Just an idea.... join your local fire dept! It'll be much easier to steal a fire truck to save your house! I kept a fire from burning through my property just 2 weeks after joining my local fire dept.
Chick's dig firefighters dude. It's no joke..

Oh,and I'm not surprised you live in south park! Are Kyle and Cartman on your loop?

I actually don't have an attic or a crawl space! Vaulted ceilings/slab.

I've been working the last year on flammable stuff reduction, raking pine needles, cutting off lower branches, etc. lots of work! And I have my firewood drying down far from the house in the middle of the meadowy-area so it doesn't light trees on fire. I need to do a lot more raking honestly but that shit is exhausting, and then putting it in the truck to move it away from the house. My slash piles are getting really big lol I need to get a burn permit and figure out how to do that safely too, that makes me a little nervous.

I've considered it... Been lazy though. I really should try, it would be helpful for me and other people. And you're right lol what's cooler than being a firefighter!

Haha I'm a little bit away from there 🤣 I could be the inspiration for one of them, you never know...
