Basket's Build

I don't have a 3d printer

I know a guy.

You have a link for your spool racks?

Is PLA adequate for the seat bushings?

No, PLA isn't going to work for this. It's too soft and would eventually just deform on a moderately warm day. I have some more exotic filaments I'd use.

Here's the rack I used, it's fine for what it is. I think I used PETG.

I've not needed them yet, but I'll check my seats. But I'd probably just consider them a wear item

I ask as someone was selling these printed in some form of nylon (I think), but I don't believe they lasted long once installed based on reviews. No personal experience with them, I just went with the Summit kit for the price.

I don’t know that I need them but figured if I did it’d be nice to know what to print them with.

I might make a later version of my tail light housings in PPA-CF (but it ain't cheap), also nylon but maybe better? https://us.store.bambulab.com/products/ppa-cf

I'd be interested to hear/see how you make out. I grabbed a roll of that when they were having their filament sale but haven't had any projects since that would make good use of it. It feels like a material I don't want to waste... 😀

Cooler works great. Made tacos on the side of the trail and it was nice to be able to bring all the supplies and not worry about them getting soaked. Also nice to be able to put it back in the fridge at home not worrying if it has sat hot for a while. 12v socket came out a few times, not sure if it's a loose fit or the damn dog kept stepping on it.

Realizing my sense of trail difficulty is absolutely crap from this Jeep. Went on a few trails that I consider "pretty dang easy" with a guy in a 2023 Chevy Colorado Off-road. They were not "pretty dang easy" for him, more like "impassable, body damage likely, and we need to turn around". Whoops.

Everyone talks shit until they try to follow your Wal-Mart build tj on 33s. No offense to yours(or mine) but it happens over and over. Mid arms and 35's being a whole different level

Okay this was a new one for me.

Trying to figure out why my seat heaters were blowing the fuse. No wires cut or anything... Undid one of the plugs... Looks like one of the pins got bent and smushed into the same terminal as the one above it. Weird

Been workin on some chair action. Got the Summit seat foam upper and lower for the driver seat.

Old vs. new...

My fat butt definitely did a number on the bottom one. Torn, and all the old foam was noticeably more spongy and deteriorating as you touched it.

I think I also found out why the trip to Moab always ruins my back...

Got that puppy welded back up. Flux core welds are so ugly I really need to buy gas one of these days...

I was having trouble zipping the fabric on the back part of the seat and really didn't want to tear the zipper, so I stitched it together with zip-ties first to put less pressure on the 25yo zipper.

You can't see them with it put back together so they'll just stay there.

Little bit of a before and after...

I cleaned the covers while they were off, I used a carpet cleaner on them lol and looks like I missed a spot near the headrest which is a bummer but still is significantly cleaner. Maybe it is placebo but the bolstering even looks firmer, especially on the outer side where it was split. Also seat heaters were put in.

Thanks to Mike with the BFH Garage videos I didn't have to go into it blind that was super helpful. I was kinda disappointed that the upper seat foam didn't have any velcro like the OEM foam to stick the cover too. I had some velcro laying around so I tried to add it in but I don't think it's going to stick to the foam very well.

Anyways it is significantly more comfortable already just sitting on it on the floor. I'm pretty excited to see how this feels on road and on trail, with the firmer bolstering.

Another small but important Moab prep step. One of my half door hinges lost its pin when I removed them last winter.

So, in goes a new set.

I think the black will probably look better than the old silver ones once they get matchingly dirty and blend in better.

Forgot to take pictures. Seat is back in with new foam, seat heaters connected, and half doors on. Took it for a cruise to see how the new foam felt. It is definitely more comfortable, but damn I am sitting like 2-3" higher now. I'm not sure how I feel about that, it feels like I'm almost too big to fit now. Wish the seat would slide back another couple inches now. Oh well. Having seat heaters is niiiice.

All that's left pre-Moab is the soft top now.
