Basket's Build

You're doing better than me then.... I keep saying I'm going to buy a Pink or Red pen to mark stuff with.

I was in full money-blowing mode when I was buying stuff for gears so added them in with that lol. Pretty cheap compared to all the other tools. When it's back on the tires I'm gonna torque, mark, and grease everything up

Does it rub off or something?

It doesn't flake or chip off any worse than other colors, but the white seems to be harder to see after a certain amount of time after dirt and grime get on it. I'm not sure if it is absorbing the junk or what, but I used to use blue and it was much easier to see the marks a year later than the white.

So what you're saying is... Another vote for yellow supremacy

Little bit of rant here. I am losing motivation to stay in the "project car" hobby so fast. I am just so tired of getting ripped off by companies selling junk. In this one project (gears) I've literally thrown away:
  • 400$ in the shit Yukon gears and associated parts trying to make them work
  • 50$ in a vacuum bleeder that only worked once
  • 30$ on a air compressor line from Ace that just popped today
  • ~250$ in the other set of Yukon gears that ECGS seems to be trying to get out of refunding me (delivered 2/18)
This seems to be the case on every project I take on to some extent. It is starting to get real old and I'm really starting to wonder if my time and money is better spent elsewhere. If I had any idea what else I'd do all day I'd probably be considering it more seriously. Why is everything you buy complete dog shit nowadays?

Oh, boy, where to start with an answer to that one? That's a doozy to answer. Assuming it wasn't rhetorical in nature, the short answer, which is my opinion and tied to politics, starts with the complete demise of personal responsibility and accountability in this nation. Maybe since "retard" is starting to be acceptable again, the pendulum is swinging back. Gosh, I hope so!

Haha!! I've noticed that making a comeback too and it's nice, it's so fitting sometimes 🤣

It is mostly rhetorical. It doesn't seem like there is anything I can do about it. I want to blame Amazon, but when I buy stuff locally, it's as bad or worse quality. Maybe still Amazon's fault though?

And damn I know alot of people have good experiences with ECGS but to me they are behaving like a real scummy place. Just bad luck as always, maybe

I'd try to lie to you and tell you that it'll get better but then what?

You aren't in this hobby to save or make money. The one PLUS to all of this is that you're only going to do a lot of these things once and you'll be done....
Tools/parts don't seem to be manufactured with the same quality that they did years ago unfortunately. I had to return a brake bleeder I'd bought off Amazon. And it's one of the reasons I buy from there more than other places... My recommendation is that you always check the companies return policy prior to buying from them.
I am surprised that ECGS is giving you as much trouble as they are but others have complained about them before but that was years ago and I'd thought they had gotten better.

Really my only real advice is that while paying more sometimes sucks it can be worth it.

I'm not in this hobby to get fucked over either yet here we are 🤣

Yeah I saw a bunch of people ordering from them and thought it would be good but I think I'm better off buying from the manufacturer instead unless there is some compelling reason not to. Some lesson lol

Yeah. Seems like it is and I'll need to rethink the budget for future projects. Although Yukon gears cost more than RGA I think so wtf 😭

The hard truth is that if you enjoy doing these things, you have to get used to spending money on good parts, tools and equipment that both work well and will last. That also means having to figure out what good parts, tools, and equipment are. You have to spend time and money to save time and money. Buying good effective tools as you need them will increasingly equip you for future projects over time. Another important layer to this is figuring out who the beneficial teachers are.

Mike recently did a nice video on brake line flaring tools that touches on this.

I called my wife a retard Friday evening, and I’ve slept on the couch since. Apparently, she hasn’t heard that it’s an acceptable word again. I’m going to try and slip back into the bed tonight. We’ll see how it goes from there.

Sorry

Again, not that it matter but we all get FUCK OVER now & then... Chalk it up to life experience and move on. That machine shop not checking my heads IMO was the cause of my cracked block. Shit happens. But I'm sorry it's happening to you.

It seems to be a hit & miss which makes me cautious & Lewry of wanting to buy from them & I'd been thinking about if I ever was going to orecer axle assemblies I'd consider getting one from them.

Anymore I just hope I aren't homeless..
