The LJ I just bought came with on-board air compressor via a second a/c compressor converted to an air compressor, the compressor is connected to a tank. I don’t know anything about this setup so been doing some research. One of the items that keeps comping up Is the compressor needs to be oiled to prevent freeze up. I‘m not how that happens.
There is a black container on the back of the compressor, it doesn’t go anywhere so not sure what it is for.
From the discharge it is routed to the black unit strapped to the bar brace, which I assume is an oil and water separator. From there it is routed to the black unit with the gauge, I assume pressure relief valve, i’m not sure what the electrical item is in the center, unless the on-off switch, but not sure how that turns on the compressor as I didn’t see any wires from there to the compressor.
For now my question is how does the compressor get lubricated? I ran it for a short while and it worked great and would hate to damage it.
I also assume I should drain all the air out after use.

Any input appreciate.

That compressor looks like York style. It has a crankcase that oils the internals. That black thing on the top of the compressor is the intake filter. The thing with the wires on the manifold could be a pressure switch to operate the compressor clutch. And the thing to the right of it looks like a pressure reliefe valve. Probably has a number stamped on it that is the pressure it pops off at.

Sanden type compressors converted to OBA need a little bit of oil dribbled into the intake to keep it from eating its self. And that isnt what you have.

Actually it's a pretty cool setup. There's an oil trap with a level indicator on the side that has a drain line out the bottom. There's a ball valve that's closed and assume you can occasionally open the valve as that line is plumbed back into the compressor.
The black manifold with a pressure switch, pressure guage and a pressure blow off valve allows for multiple runs. In your case it looks like a run to the front and one to the rear where you should find quick connect couplers. Obviously you found the switch inside.

X2 that's a York F210 which has an oil sump in its internal sump filled with 30 weight engine oil. It is filled with and checked for oil via a small port plugged by a small hex head bolt on its passenger side.

Thank you everyone, great input. I thought that might be the intake, but didn’t see any holes, unless its at the seem. I’ll need to look at the fill plug and level to check on the oil level. The switch is inside right next to the lockers, blends in great. Yes there is a run to the front and rear with a quick disconnect. Here are a couple of pictures of the tank. I plan on removing the drain plug to something else as I’m afraid I’ll rip it off. I’m not sure if the PO ever did any rock crawling, it’s clean under there.

I ran a York oba system on my previous TJ and its air tank was between the frame rails too. So is my present TJ's Derale transmission cooler. While not invulnerable there neither has ever been damaged during my 22-23 years of rock crawling in the SoCal and AZ deserts.

This is on my previous TJ shortly after installing the tank.

Thank you, I’m located No Cal. I’m not too concerned about the tank, just the drain cock. Of course maybe I’m overthinking it.

So with this setup do you want to run system with this value in the on or off position? Seems like you would just want the oil to return to the compressor so not really sure why the valve? Just like the picture the separator has the see through tube. @Jerry Bransford getting to the fill screw will be fun, it’s sandwiched between the compressor and air filter housing.
