97-98 ac controls are the only part I've run into that is hard to get. Though the later style hvac can be adapted.(yes i know this is a 4 year old thread)

Greetings from Finland. I have a 1997 TJ and would like to 'upgrade' my climate control panel to the knob type (currently I have the slide type). Can anyone advise me if it is a simple plug and play or what is needed to make the change. Would like to know the additional parts I would need and is this very complicated? My TJ does not have AC (obviously due to my location). Many thanks

Below I will give you detail on how to change your 97-98 sliding knobs to turn style for your heating and cooling. I will tell you what I did; other years might work, but I will only tell you what WILL work. I have a 97 Sport, 4.0L manual 5spd.

That sounds like a LOT more work IMO... But that also depends on the current shape of your tub & if you can get a 1999 or newer tub for cheap that has everything in it too.
Cab and drivetrain swap if you don't want to be splicing wires
