2004 Rubicon Exhaust

I’ll test this on my way to the ski mountain tomorrow. Now, just gotta slap my rotors and pads on. Thanks for all the help thus far! I’ll make a new post soon about a leaky power steering pump 🤩

Also, I found a short well 15mm on a universal 3/8 to be the optimal set up.

There is a reason I keep asking about the engine noise being quieter. You can know that right now.

It’s way quieter, I was amazed. Also, haven’t smelled any exhaust!

Good! You sealed two exhaust leaks above the mini cats where the gasses are the stinkiest. And you made more of the exhaust pass through the muffler.

And you learned why the guys who want to remove their catalytic converters and O2 sensors are assholes.

What a day!

Catless cars are stanky. I have 0 obligation to have one but still am going to cough out for one when I redo my MR2 exhaust. Smells like a cheap go cart

Really? Your political commentary should be on another thread 🤪 But to confirm, you feel all 3 cats are necessary for what exactly? Mopar could have easily left out the pre-cats and I’m pretty sure nobody (but the assholes) would actually care. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Quickly circling back, I have both pre-cats installed but they are gutted. Where does that land me in the Asshole spectrum? I’m thinking I’m full asshole but never did I correlate “Full Asshole” with the gutting of my LJ’s pre-cats.
Learn something new everyday.

Personally, I am more immediately interested in the cats monitored by O2 sensors as part of the engine management. Post #24 is relevant to that.

Full disclosure, my third cat is long gone because I needed the room for a muffler after the 4 link. If I ever get the rear stretch done, I do intend to put a third cat back in place along with a larger quieter muffler.

Next time boogieman posts something vaguely political where you don't like it, I will trust that you will jump into action.

I'll have to check this when I pull my car out of winter storage in a couple weeks, it hasn't had cats for several years and nobody has ever mentioned anything about a smell. Nor have I noticed.

I/we got gasses a few years ago bad enough to give us headaches in a 10 minute drive due to a few loose bolts. I really couldn't smell or hear the leak, but it was there. After that, I bought a standard house smoke/CO detector that now lives under my passenger seat. I suggest that to everyone.

It isn't the 1970s anymore, there is no reason to cut out all the cats, especially on a 4.0L, you'll gain zero benefit except it might sound like shit and everyone behind you will smell it.

I can't smell the difference between a cat vs non-cat vehicle when tuned correctly, but I can smell one running non-pump gas. ;)

True. Modern cats flow well and as long as they're not plugged up, they really don't cause any significant back pressure, unlike those old pre 90s cats. They provide more good than bad.

But they cause a host of problems and the cause of many others along with codes not related to th o2 system.

They could be simplified and then I think they would be embraced by more.
