Wow, glad it wasn't anything catastrophic and you're already back on the road. I've pulled a lot of things and drove a lot of trucks, but never paid attention to the PSI in the tires beyond making sure nothing looked low. Do you typically want the pressure pretty high in trailers? (Not that I think that had much of anything to do with your issue, this seems like general maintenance issues).

Basically, when trailering loads I’ve always read you should follow the max tire pressure on the sidewall. I doubt it had anything to do with it, as you said, and I knowingly took a risk when I checked the pressure and aired them up and realized they were older tires. I didn’t feel like I had a choice since this was paid for in March. He had changed trailers the last minute saying it was lighter and would be better. When I called him on the tires, he admitted it was a trailer he just bought and he hadn’t checked the tires. Like, for real? The liability there is high. That’s stupid. I’m glad we’re ok.

Addendum: he suggested we move the Jeep forward and tow it like that. I was like, no way, that’s a stupid mistake waiting to happen, so we unloaded the Jeep and drove back to Butte.

Wow, so this is a trailer in a fleet! That's pretty negligent, especially as it seems like he knew the intended usage. People in town can deal with issues easier than cross country voyagers.

Yeah, and my very first question back in March was, “can I take the trailer to Moab?” He was like, “Sure.” So he knew this was a cross country voyage. When this happened he wanted me to get one tire and a spare. I could never do that in good conscience. These tires were shot. Anyway, hope you solve the cluster issue. Looks like someone chimed in with experience.

Almost to Moab! The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi 5.7L has been doing great! Thanks to @TJTurley for giving me the idea to tow with this rig. HD Cooler FTW!

Forum wasn't giving me alerts on your thread so I'm just catching up from early April....

Enjoy Moab!!! Stay on 4 wheels ;)

I don’t care as long as I get my money or a trailer. He can pry it from my dying grip. Asshole to put people in that kind of risky situation.

When I texted him that the tires had cracks in the tread and one had delaminated and he needed 5 new tires he said, how much is it going to cost? I was like, dude, do you have any idea what is going on here. I’m fixing your trailer. I’m doing your maintenance. This is my trailer till I get my money. End of story and that’s very gracious.

Damn! This has been a crazy story to read on my catchup of the thread.... I'm so glad you and your wife are safe!

Most importantly - I'm glad the Jeep is ok... :p

Honestly - I love your approach on this fucking debacle! The renter is lucky that tire blow-out didn't end up way worse with vehicles damaged, flipping, etc. Tires that foregone should have never been on the road and he could be looking at thousands of damage - or worse life lose when they went.... Hold him to the line!

--Break--

I'm glad I'm caught up at the right time to catch the start of your Moab ride!! Enjoy!!

Thanks Brother! It’s been an adventure already. Today was so much smoother, even though our shortened first day made for a long second day to reach Moab.

It was 9:20 minute driving and 10:20 with stops. Not bad. We arrived at 6pm. Got into our room, freshened up, and wife decided on Trailhead Pub House for dinner. Sat outside and we were shocked how good it was (may have been really hungry 🤣), but we’re both foodies, especially her, and we decided on a Grilled Cheese with bacon, cream cheese, cheddar, and jalapeños and their Reuben. Both were crazy good, but we both gave the slight advantage to the grilled cheese. That was a crazy choice for us, but really turned out. Tater tots and sweet potato fries. It’s hard to beat sweet potato fries with ranch.

A new era. Can't believe you're towing to Moab.

I'm betting you get the same mileage, if not better, towing the thing with the GC as driving it :ROFLMAO:.

The mileage was about the same! 11.4mpg avg on the way to Moab.

Not bad at all considering you were towing around a 7k, including the trailer, brick as far as aero goes.
Other than the blow out I'm sure it was a much more relaxing drive. I bet it's also a bit of a stress relief that at the end of the trip you don't need to drive it home and can toss it back on the trailer. (Don't go too crazy)

Brand new half door latches from Bestop and the passenger side is fubared. I had to remove the u bolt just to get the f- door off. So, that is more bad luck and maybe I shouldn’t see a trail. For crying out loud. I don’t want to run full doors and I don’t want to run no doors. That’s why I bought and built and painted and updated all the latches on the half doors. I don’t want to freeze on the way to the trailhead. Such crap. Bestop got an email full.

And if any of you are wondering if you should get some Bestop half door latches. Hell no, not in a million years. I’ve had four and two were defective. That’s good in Baseball but not in business.

Wife and I got a permit for Elephant Hill, but both tired of being in the car, so we made a short drive to Grandstaff Canyon where you hike to Morning Glory Natural Bridge. 6th longest natural bridge in the world at 243ft.

Antica Forma, best damn pizza we’ve ever had. Hard to go 2 for 2 with us. The pizza is insane. 10/10. The carrot cake is 7/10. Like the Pizza had tastes I never tasted. Pitcher of beer. Very good times.

Drove out to Dead Horse Point after dinner. It’s always stunning. We got a little sun today. She’s so cute. She got way too close to the edge. I wasn’t excited about it. She said if I loved her I would come out. I can definitely can use that tomorrow on Cliffhanger. 😆
