I got some 1/4” thick rubber sheets from a fab shop that was just leftover, so I decided to try a little sound deadening. I have no idea if this will do much to dampen vibes and sound, but I’m giving it a shot. I didn’t use any adhesive because I can’t bear the thought of it being permanent and getting wet or needing to remove.

I only did the footwells front and rear. BedRug goes on top, then my WeatherTech liners. Gave me a chance to clean the Jeep out after being topless since May.

@Moab is our in-house sound deadening expert, so I asked him if it would be very efficient use of the 1/4” rubber sheets to put them in the rear of the tub. He said absolutely, the exhaust is back there. So I went to work. Needed to clean the back of the TJ anyway after being topless for 5 months. Then I put the BedRug back down on top. I have a rear WeatherTech floor liner, but I forgot to put it back in. LOL. It wasn’t doing much anyway. If I go in again I’ll put it back in. This totally killed a lot of sound. I can’t hear my exhaust that dumps under the tub. I’m so happy about that. So far it cost me $0 to do this. 😜

I should document the subwoofer setup for those interested.

I figured the size box I could fit under a TJ rear seat using various thicknesses. It’s higher toward the front than the back. I calculated the volume I needed to fall within spec for the slimline 8” Kicker subwoofer. I think it’s the LT7. I went with the square sub because it has more real estate than round. Initially I just put it under the seat and ran it. After awhile I noticed that if anything was on the seat it muffled the sub, so I added some 1/2” aluminum blocks under the four seat mounting brackets and the seat belt latch bracket. At least the sub wasn’t touching the seat. If someone sits right in the middle it muffles it. So, this setup isn’t perfect for every scenario, and ideally you want more air space between the surface of the sub and the seat (4”), but space is a premium in a TJ, so this is what I did. It sounds really good, and I have a bass control knob on the dash. The Soundstream 5-Channel Picasso Amp is pushing it and the other 4 speakers.

Then I buttoned everything up. I really like the Bestop InstaTrunk. Keeps all my off-road gear and tools secure.

After swapping to Anchor Motor Mounts (OEM Style), and adding the 1/4” rubber sheets in floorboards and rear tub floor there are less vibrations and quieter. Very pleased.

Can I use this front coil spring isolator on the rear? I need 3/4” on the rear passenger side.

The front springs are considerably narrower than the rear. If memory serves me correctly, the front spring isolator would fit inside the rear spring.

I’m thinking on the upper perch rather than the typical lower. The springs taper at the top. I’ve already given my OME rear spacers to my son for his build. You never know what you’ll need. I’ve had to repurchase several things. Trying to avoid that😏

Looks a bit small to me. Especially, once there is weight on the springs. Let me take a couple more pictures to check.

That said, IIRC, I ran a set of aluminum 1" spacers on the rear. They are approximately the same size as the front spring isolator and they worked okay. I did not however run them for a long time, or wheel with them.

Here's how it would sit with the rear isolator. FWIW, you can see the black semi-circle, outside the yellow, is where the spring sits with weight on them.

Interesting. Thanks for pulling all that stuff out to check. I’m going to say no it won’t work. I’ve got another weird spacer that’s slightly wider that I’ll post a pic of out of interest. I’ve got some others too, but all for the front. Anyone want to trade a pair of rear spacers for a pair of front spacers? I’ve got a nice set of aluminum 1.5”. 🙂

I know you are trying to steer away from purchasing more crap, but OME makes a 10mm spacer for the rear springs if you can find some. I gave mine away years ago, but this is what they look like.

That’s what I gave to my son. LOL. I messed with my lift height so much when I was on OME springs that I think the imperial equivalent of 10mm is 0.3916” or something like that.

Yeah, I was just trying to avoid buying them. I may look into making some. I’ve got an idea. Might cost about $5 and a little time.

This is the other spacer I have. Wider resting point for a coil spring, but i think I’ll pass. I need a 3/4” anyway and this is 1 1/4”

Got a new Warn winch controller from @Blackjack. This one is muy beuno.

IMG_4882.jpeg

The old one has a weird in/out orientation of the controller and one of the pins is loose. Still works, but want more surety.

3 days of troubleshooting winch with @Blackjack. It would reel in but not out. Already got a new controller due to one questionable pin on the original. No change. New solenoids. Then it wouldn’t reel in or out. Tested solenoids. Old and new worked. Tested armature and field 1 and 2. Trouble. So I removed the motor and cap. Cleaned everything. Had some rust. It works now. Only took 12 hours to figure out.

Was the rust grounding it to the magnets?
