Savvy slider (and corner armor) install tips

Will do! I am hitting a speed bump, just want to put this out to the masses.

Is there suppose to be a slight bend at the top of the rocker guard? I can see the line down the slider from the press brake or drop hammer or whatever was used to form it. I can't seem to get it flat no matter how much/little I apply pressure in any place. Its the same on both aluminum pieces. Hopefully @mrblaine is still around today 😁

Yes, that bend is supposed to be there. That isn't the problem and you don't have enough high force clamps.

Awesome, thanks! I'll switch out to the big C's.
So just squish that bend flat and then i'm there?

@Midnight LJR is that what you ended up doing?

Yeah I went and bought about 12 large C clamps. Clamped it like crazy everywhere.

Drilled the holes straight through like Blaine said to do instead of marking them. Basically did my best to install them the way Blaine says he does it.

How did you clamp it towards the ends? I can clamp it all the way along the door but i don't know how to get at it at the ends.

I cut some little strips of wood to use where I needed to. They allowed me make the surface I needed to clamp wider when needed.

Can you post of a photo of where you are trying to put the clamp and are unable to?

I was using some large clamps similar to these.

I've got a lot of it flat, but I just can't seem to get that gap to go away. I'll try putting some wood on the outside as well to try to spread the force. I can still see down between the body and the aluminum. I only have enough pressure on the floor jack to just start to move the body. I read someplace that blaine said not to put too much force there or it rolls the rocker guard off. my gap is definitely at the top, its tight at the bottom just before the bend.

Cool, I don’t believe you will be able to flatten out the little gap from the bend in the aluminum. It’s designed to be there. Probably to keep the top flaring out.

More jack.

I should've worded it better. I the body "started" to move, and I gave the jack handle three more swings. I hope that was enough!
It is enough when the top edge touches, the outer face is parallel to the tub side, and the bottom is up tight. They should have been made so they are over bent past 90 degrees slightly so you have to preload them to open them up to 90 degrees with the jack.

Ok good. When I was jacking it up I had my fingers along the edge at the top, against the tub. It would slowly creep up until it stopped. I'm assuming that's when it was opened up and contacted elsewhere.

Well I goofed the install. I put two nutserts in the wrong holes. Could've been worse, but I'm a little peeved at myself. The third, lower one is one of the ones i have in the garage. the flange is a little thicker (another thing i missed until it was too late) so i tapped it down, so that should be fine. I'll pick up a few more nutserts tomorrow to finish this side out.

@Midnight LJR Here are the pictures of the nutserts in the slider. I picked these up today, they have a grip range for 3/16" material.

Part of me wonders if the flange head is too thick on this and i should counterbore those holes so the head sits down farther. Oh well, i need to step away for the night.

Yes, flange is too thick. You need the same version that Savvy supplies just with more grip range. Or counterbore. Yes, you goofed on the front fender. I use a heavy fender washer in those places.

Yeah I'm gunna try to track down some thin flange nutserts for the slider to bolt into.
As far as the front fender goes... I dunno, I'm gunna have to think about that one. I've got thoughts of machining small fender washers with a very thin 17/32 raised portion that will center in the oversized holes. But I need to just quit and revisit it in the morning.
Thanks for all your help MrBlaine, I appreciate it.
