Savvy slider (and corner armor) install tips

I understand about the length of the sliders and how they fit. But with the hi-line kit I have. The stock rubi rockers are trimmed to 53" and wheel opening is 61 3/4".So the length of these pieces would be helpful to determine how much will need trimming or will TJ length one work better.

Aluminum 69”

Steel 57 1/2”

That is longer measurement on both, let me know if you need any others.

Have you used stainless nutserts with stainless hardware successfully?
Yes.👍 Make sure to use a bit of antiseize to prevent any gauling. We did this frequently working on Cobra helicopter access panels after the dzus fastener wants to let go in flight.😢

Installing my Savvy corner armor right now, and just noticed that it did not come pre drilled for the OEM flares. I thought on all the old installs I read they did.

Does Savvy no longer ship with holes for OEM flares?

I guess I will have to drill out for them myself if they don’t. But don’t want to install these ones if I accidentally got shipped the wrong ones. I would ask Savvy but they won’t be open until Monday so just wanted to see if anyone knows that recently installed them.

@tomtaylz seemed to have good luck reaching them on the LJ facebook group.

@mrblaine ?

My Savvy corners didn't come with holes for the flares. Bought mine in February of 2018. Pretty sure they don't come pre drilled for flares anymore.

I bought a pair 6 years ago and they were not predrilled either. I used a 90 degree drill adapter from Harbor freight after I mounted the corner guards. It was simple to drill from the backside using the factory holes as a guide. Everything fit perfectly.

This is the cheap adapter I used.

It is an issue of the demand altering the product. They were drilled for flares and there were corners without holes for flares. The ones without flare holes outsold the ones with by 30-40 to 1. Then they deleted the flare holes on the next orders and then everyone wanted holes for flares. No way to win.

That little gizmo might have helped. I might have to pick one up for the other side.

I got one side mounted it was quite a bit more time consuming having to drill the holes myself. But figured it was something like Blaine was talking about. I understand them not offering it. I was just under the impression they did.

I got through it, one side to go for next week.

It is definitely worth picking up. It made it super easy. When I ordered the corner guards it was still an option to order blank or predrilled corners. When I received them I called Gerald and he politely explained the same thing MrBlaine did. It wasn't a big deal and I just wanted to make sure I had received the correct parts before I fully unboxed them.

I just marked and did it a little at a time. I ended up just going a bit oversized on all of them to make them match up using a step bit. I am really happy with how they turned out. I plan to get them painted to match soon.

Just posting because 1) things are looking great. And 2) I also have savvy rocker/slider install coming up and want to be able to find this thread again.

May I inquire of your experience and what hasn't been successful with this combo?
Stainless and stainless tend to gall very easily. We use normal hardware with stainless fasteners or stainless fasteners into steel nutserts. A/S helps but then you have to take into account the torque reduction and possibility of loosening fasteners.

As you know, I play with boats...I use nothing but stainless hardware. Rather than anti-seize, I use pipe dope with teflon and I've never had any issues with galling.

Stainless nut serts seem unnecessary here...I'd use stainless bolts with zinc plated nutserts simply to save money. Probably use pipe dope on the threads if I was in a shitty environment.

I know I'm resurrecting an older thread, but i figured it's better then starting another one.

I'm currently installing my Savvy sliders. My question is, does the steel portion get bolted onto the aluminum, and then the whole caboodle installed on to the Jeep? I've figured that the six flange nuts get used on the bottom (flush) bolts of the steel portion to bolt it to the aluminum rocker guard, then the other six are used on the bracing plate inside the tub?

Lemme know if I'm on track here.

I never do it that way. I always put nutserts in the aluminum backer and then the slider can bolt on and off easily.

Thank you. So will I need to get some longer nutserts or will the one's that came with the kit have enough grip length for the thicker aluminum?

I ended up picking up some nutserts with a larger grip range. On with the install!
