Any advantage to the heavy duty LUK clutch kit?

If I remember correctly you’ll be fine with just the regular one. I have the regular one on mine. The throwout bearing might be plastic it was on mine. I replaced it with a all metal throwout bearing. I believe it was a National throwout bearing.
 
Go with the standard-duty Luk kit. The heavy duty Luk clutch is meant for trucks and it's noisier than the standard kit we use in our Jeeps. The standard Luk kit is generally good for at least 200k miles, mine still had plenty of clutch material left on it when I did a precautionary replacement at 162k miles just before big rock crawling run.

This is my OE clutch smoking, it was regularly abused. >200k miles on the standard clutch is the norm.

The TOB may be made of a composite material, but they are not plastic.

I have to get this old post out again. I'm looking for the high-performance clutch LUK 05901 from Rock Auto because I often tow our caravan. I live in the mountains in Germany and have to pull the trailer in this way. I think it makes sense to upgrade the clutch. Now my clutch slips off hard. Now, 100k Miles on the 99 Jeep 4.0 5-speed manual transmission.
What do you think about?
 
Stick with the regular clutch. Any trailer you are pulling with a TJ is insignificant in weight. Heavy duty clutches may have a slightly thicker clutch material, but almost always has a much heavier clamping force. This means a heavier clutch feel. These are for trucks pulling a trailer that weighs what your TJ and trailer combined weigh. And then loading it up.

Have you considered going to a deeper gear ratio in the differentials? Not only would it give you more torque at all speeds, it would significantly reduce the wear on the clutch.

Ah, o.k. I have this question, cause the heavy duty is also available at ROCK AUTO for the TJ! If you think the standard clutch is good enough to pull the caravan, I‘ll try it again. You‘re sure the original clutch is from LUK?
 
I put in the heavy duty. No noticeable difference in clutch force or noise. The friction surface has a smaller ID to give it more area. My OEM blew apart coming downhill while out wheeling with only 48k miles.

Yes the OE clutch was made by Luk. Some might have been made by Sachs too but my OE was a Luk.

I‘ll replace my clutch with the OE standard. Cause the pre owner drives off road very hard and I think he burned the clutch. It smells burned... I hope the flywheel is good and not blue from the heat!!

Thank you. If the fly wheel is bad do you have any recommendations?
Rarely is the flywheel bad enough to replace. At the most you should only lightly sand off any glazing that might be present. Don't have it turned, it has a slight dome shape that turning would remove. The FSM cautions against it too.
