The decline of restaurants and eating out

Want good restaurant food? When you drive past a restaurant that is small, maybe looks kind of rundown, and is in a low rent place stop and go in. Don't worry about how dingy the place might look or what languages is spoken. Order whatever they are serving.

I like to ask them what they recommend, what is popular, etc.

Too many people will go to a restaurant and order something off the wall. Then complain that it wasn't any good. If you're trying a new place, order something they are known for.

Just like I tell my kids: If you want a good steak, go to a steakhouse. Don't go to a seafood place and order steak or spaghetti, then complain that it wasn't very good, and that you don't want to go back to the seafood place. I get that they always want the most expensive thing on the menu. Just make sure to order something that fits the theme of the restaurant.

I pretty much always get enchiladas in mole sauce now.

That's one of my favorites too. Just depends on where. Some places have better mole and they all make it differently.

Yep, that’s why I get it. Quick way to determine if I’ll want to visit again.

My local places are really good with it. They aren’t so good with their English though and they are still here so they must be legal.

My buddy told about the time he took his 80 year old mom out for her birthday. She wanted to go to a Chinese restaurant. She didn't order General Tso's or pork lo mein, she ordered steak, and complained the whole way home

Door dash is crazy to me, I can't believe how much people spend on that. One of my student workers does door dash for everything, from restaurants that are within walking distance to our campus. :ROFLMAO:

Agreed. I almost ordered a breakfast burrito from chick fil a on there this morning, what usually costs me 5.23 was gonna cost over 10 through door dash. Screw that. By the way guys, if you want a quick breakfast, I gotta recommend a chick fil a spicy breakfast burrito. So damn good

Years ago before my Mom passed, she wanted us to take her down to Orange County, CA. so she could go Karaoke bar hopping with her Japanese friends. We then piled into a limo (nice to be with her rich friends) and we ended up at a fancy Sushi Bar. While they were jiving in Japanese (I only know a few words like, (Toyota, Datsun, Honda and Yamahaha), the wait staff just started to bring out platters of food. My Wife and I looked at each other and said what the heck and dived right in too. I mean most of it was really good but, some not so much.

A few hours later my Wife and I were back on to road heading home and I caught the aroma of a hole in the wall Mexican joint. Yes, I was hungry again. So we went around the block and pulled up in back. There were quite a few low riders and other nice rides, so we thought, let's go for it and got some Asada tacos and a couple of Chili Verde burritos. They were delicious. I miss those kind of places since we moved to MT.

That applies if you like an occasional cocktail too. When in in a bar where they might have a real professional mixologist bartender I ask them to make me a not sweet whisky cocktail that they are really proud of. I've had some fantastic drinks and even when I didn't enjoy what was served I tipped like it was perfect. Just because it wasn't to my taste doesn't mean it was bad.

The amount of people i know that do door dash is crazy. I have a neighbor that i would say at least 5 meals a week are being delivered and these are just the ones that i see. Sad part is they are all fast food too. Like she literally could drive 5 minutes down the road and get it herself. Probably for the amount of money she spends she could eat a T-bone steak if she cooked at home.

I have found that all the states where I have eaten Mexican food Arizona is the only place with good Mexican food.
I found that many of the local Mexican restaurants are Sonoran style and some are Baja style (both northwest Mexico) which are completely different than the northeast Mexican that I was used to before moving here.

I don't understand how people can afford that. I don't make terrible money but I could never. Between tip, fees, and the increased prices on the app vs. in person, you'll end up spending like 50$ for a fast food meal.
