Fire Extinguisher Rabbit Hole

Hello Everyone,

I started looking for extinguishers and I know there are quite a bit of posts here already on the topic but in the process searching and reading and searching, I came across this automatic suppression system from a company called Blaze Cut. The website has a lot of information along with videos and the system uses a non corrosive agent so it won't destroy paint or electrical components/wires.

The posted videos of cars they light on fire with the hood closed on there website look like the system works pretty well. Only concern maybe would be how hot does under hood temps get in our TJ's? Their website states the activation temp is 221 deg F.

Has anyone seen this in action?

Overkill for something that most likely will never happen IMO.

221F activation temperature? The coolant temp is 210+, the exhaust temp is 1000+, so the underhood temps will likely hit 221 on a regular basis.

Here in Phoenix the ambient temp gets top 118, so that 221 is not enough of a safety margin.

If it’s something you’re seriously considering, get a cheap weather station or such and put the temp probe under the hood. Monitor your temps and see what the results are. Even a Meator probe or something

Complexity introduces failure.
Just get a hand held Halon extinguisher. If you need it, pull the pin.

The other problem you'd run in to is its not always just your rig in the engine bay that you're going to need to put out. It might be a buddies rig, a random stranger, or a fire someplace not under the hood. Handheld is a better way to go IMO just because of versatility.

I have co driven a couple of desert cars that have these in the engine compartment and in the cockpit. You can take these and throw them in a burning car if needed.

If ya want real deal supression look at Safecraft.

I am but a mere pesant so I just carry a regular ass fire extinguisher

As a matter of fact, I have. I just ordered a pair of quick release straps for it.

I don't believe in preparing for things that haven't happened to me in 65 years. I've never had a fire in my Jeep or a flat tire. I'm a risk taker. My car insurance is a waste too, since illegals cause wrecks and don't have insurance (or a valid license) to pay for the damages.

Safecraft is absolutely top notch. I am glad you mentioned it here atleast, cost considerations aside.
