The Silver Fox LJ Build

This is an aesthetic question. I am not thrilled with the look of the GR HiLine fender. It’s that sharp angle that bothers me. A few weeks ago I fiddled with the idea of trimming the rear corner armor to match the same angle (64.6*). I drew it on the armor to get an idea. Then I saw this LJ that made that exact cut out. What do y'all think? Not that important, but curious.

I planned on cutting the rear to match the front to what ever I end up getting. If the front fender and rear flare is straight angles I would match it to be straight or if it was curved I would leave it the stock curved radius to match.

I think matching would look great! Would it put it into the tub where you would have to patch it?

No, there’s plenty of room to cut without getting into anything besides the outer tub sheet metal directly under the armor.

Got it, I'm not familiar with an LJ tub but figured it probably had plenty. Then I vote go for it, it'll look great. I've always disliked the look of no rear flares due to the aesthetics of the different wheel openings.

cut first ask for advice 2nd is always the best methodology!!!

CJ’s had a round rear flare.
YJ’s started flattening the top of the flare
TJ’s appear to flatten out and angle more.

None are square.

At the risk of being accused of self validation for offering up a slightly different methodology, I can if anyone has interest.

Sure. I’m always interested in a better way.

That's not what I said. I said a slightly different methodology, not a better methodology. There's lots of ways to skin a cat, you have to figure out what you like as better.

Understanding stress risers and how they propagate is something I could use a better grasp of when designing fish plates. 😉
