In theory spring rate could affect ride quality; however in practice and considering the OEM spring perches locations the manufacture is working with the same weight vehicle, with the same ride height requirements, and the max and min overall length that can physically be installed. Thus you end up with a spring rate across the board that is similar and can be considered constant. Thus the only variable that can be changed is the damping. That is the point that needs to be made.
