I've had my LJ for more than 5 years (33's with 2.5" OME springs 1.25" body lift, and JKS Quicker Disconnect sway bar links). It is otherwise basically stock, with all original control arms, no tummy tuck, stock driveshafts, gearing and factory LSD (which may not even work). The only armor is Mopar rock rails.

I got a ‘95 YJ a year and a half ago; I took it down from 33’s on ~4” of lift to 30’s on 2.5” to make it a street/city cruiser, part-time commuter.

I’m thinking about building the YJ up a bit for off-road use, to go in convoy with the LJ as my kids get older and can be trusted to drive off road. I didn’t like the handling at all at 4" of lift on 33's when I bought the YJ; I'd keep it on the 2.5" springs it has and keep the 30" tires at least for a couple years.

So given the above parameters, what can be done to the YJ? Without big tires I'm thinking engine skid and mild tummy tuck (e.g. UCF mild or moderate tuck).

On the LJ disconnecting the sway bar does wonders for making decent time on moderately rough roads, but I don’t know if that would be true of the leaf spring version in the YJ ( there are no track bars installed).

It has the AX-15 with factory 3.55 gears and the typical 231 transfer case. It currently has a stock driveshaft with a T-case drop for vibes; I’m pretty sure I’d commit to the SYE & DC driveshaft to lift the skid.

Since it would always be with other vehicles off road I wouldn’t worry about a winch; just decent recovery points. Regearing with a locker seems overkill right now since it would be on 30’s

Happy to hear any suggestions. I asked this over at the sister forum a few months ago but thought I’d put it over here too.

Toss an E locker in the front
My FIL did that and OBA with a York and a fire extinguisher on his YJ
