The official idiot driver thread

It's a real challenge pulling in a fuel station with a motorhome and toad. You can't back up a toad so you have to try and hurry up and pull all the way forward to the last pump before someone comes in from the other direction and blocks you. Had it happen where a woman pulled in as I was trying to pull through and blocked me, then went in the store and didn't come out till what must have been at least 20 minutes, came out, backed up and drove away without even buying gas!

I've had that happen to me. Pisses me off on another level

What a day! First I got rear ended while sitting in the left turn lane by a lady in a Suzuki "Swift" with Hawaii plates. She had hit the spare tire. I got out and didn't see any obvious damage but told her I would make the turn to get out of the traffic lanes and pull over to check the mount and the tailgate for damage and for her to follow me to which she said "Of course". Next thing I know I'm moving over to the right to pull over after the turn and she makes a u-turn and heads the other way! There was no traffic in my way and I was able to flip around and follow her, caught up to her about a 2 miles later at a red light and gave her "WTF?" hand signals out the window. I stayed on her and she pulled into a shopping center and told me she tried to "signal" me from behind that she was going to make the u turn...ya right, she was trying to ditch me. Anyway I pulled the spare cover off and checked over the mount and tailgate and found no damage but I didn't know that till I checked and wasn't about to let her get away till I knew.

Seems hit and run is now the norm as people know they won't be caught. The TJ worked hard to catch up to her little piece of shit car.

That was at 9:30, then I'm heading home and get stuck behind a woman in a BMW in the left turn lane that sits there after the 3 cars ahead make the turn on the green arrow, I honk, she finally starts to move slowly forward, the light turns yellow then red and she continues to creep forward into the intersection where she sits out the red light while cross traffic diverts around her and gives me an "oh well" motion out the window. 🤷‍♂️

By now I'm almost home, coming thru an intersection with stop signs for cross traffic but not for me and another Jeep coming up on the left to a stop sign is not slowing down so I start to stop just as he slams on his brakes in the nick of time.

Then I get home and decide to check my Wolfbox dash cam footage and found nothing! It had stopped recording at 8:30 AM on Monday and resumed today at 10:30, an hour after the incident! I haven't formatted the card in a long time and hopefully that was the problem, apparently you should format monthly so take this as a reminder.

Heading out to Costco now, wish me luck.

Did you notice if her registration was current? I have seen multiple Hawaii plates here and you know they're not on a road trip, because of, you know, that ocean between there and here. Glad you tracked here and let her know she ain't getting away with that crap.

Too bad her vehicle wasn't severely damaged.

Took the TJ and trailer up to JAX today to pick up the new Speed Queen gas dryer. Unlike when I started out to go get the washing machine, I made it up there and back with the new dryer in the trailer.

On the way up, I'm rolling 70 in the slow lane, when "suddenly" there were two cars going 45! No emergency flashers, no nothing. Idiot.

On the way home, this poor bastard had a really bad day - but at least it wasn't his fault so he wasn't an idiot., About 3 cars and half a mile ahead of me, there is suddenly a HUGE cloud of blue smoke. Guy in what I think was an Integra, apparently emptied his entire oil pan or tranny pan - there was about 100 ft of oil completely covering the pavement and the poor dude had pulled over to the side in a big hurry. I'm not sure how you do that, but I feel for him...

On the subject of idiot drivers in general, not just one idiot, has anyone else noticed what seems to be a modern epidemic of vehicles running around well after dusk without lights on?

I seem to see it all too often these days…as a guess I suspect it’s related to modern vehicle instrument panels lighting up as soon as the ignition is on, which deceives idiot drivers into not realizing their exterior lights are still off. I despised auto-on headlights when they first came out, but I think I’m starting to see the light (bad pun intended…)

I notice this and I think it's crazy they're still making vehicles without DRLs. I've never owned a car newer than like y2k without them, but I guess I don't buy bottom of the barrel Nissans rogues and the like.

Saw one the other night, Dodge challenger no lights at all in the dark. Not even daytime running lights. No idea how he didn't know.

I did get a rental car once that I had no idea the lights weren't on as I picked it up in the ramp at the airport and they had turned off the auto headlights. About an hour down the highway someone flashed me and I figured it out. It's not always obvious especially on a car you've never seen before.

Pretty sure on my truck and car the settings are both

Auto-on
Running lights
Headlights

Not sure there even is an off option??

I could have written this post word for word. If you're going to light up the instrument panel 24/7/365, you're gonna have to have auto-on headlites to go with it. More technology to solve a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place.
I'm sure my rental had running lights on but there's usually no tail lights.
Yep. See this all the time. No amount of flashing, turning lites on and off, etc, etc, can get these fools' attention either. Probably too busy with their PHOOOOOONNE...

idiot drivers into not realizing their exterior lights are still off

Just last night I was making a left turn across traffic in the LJ and had to check up in the middle of the maneuver as I caught an oncoming car at the last second with no exterior lighting. The sound of my sphincter clinching was audible. 😖

Yep, when the dash lights up as soon as the engine is started, there's no obvious indication that the headlights aren't on. On our older vehicles with analog dash instruments it's obvious the headlights aren't on because, you know, you can't see the dash.

Back to individual idiot drivers.

On the way home yesterday on a 3 lane each way boulevard, a woman pulled out of a shopping lot on the right, then decided to change into my lane (middle lane) right in front of me instead of waiting for me to go by and change lanes behind me. I had to nail the brakes to keep from hitting her, and I quickly changed to the far left lane. And whaddaya know, she changed lanes AGAIN right in front of me and I had to nail the brakes again to keep from hitting her.

At that point it should be legally justified to just ram them.
