The official idiot driver thread

Yeah but it doesn't snow here!

Speaking of where people live.

I’ve noticed that when your reverse lights come on to back out of a parking spot in Minnesota it pretty much means nothing to other drivers as they just continue driving behind you.

I know GM has also made this worse since their reverse lights come on when you open the doors or shift to park or something like that.

Is it the thing to not care about people trying to back out everywhere else or was I taught wrong and I’m the oddball?

When I can, I try and back into a parking spot, unless it's designed otherwise. I also live in east TN, not MN

I usually don’t park near anyone. It usually happens when I’m with the wife. She’ll go to back out and the cross traffic alert goes nuts. Sometimes two or three people will drive right by. Seemingly speeding up to make sure they get by and usually stopping behind us and making it worse.

I've been "stuck" like that only a few times. When given the option I always back in to a space or better yet, pull through one so Im facing out to the next isle.

What annoys me even more is when I park 5 spots away from everyone but come out to find a shit box parked very close to me.

The person backing out has to yeild to people driving through the lot, why would I stop

Oh like if they're already in the lane? Yeah if they're already out I will stop vs. drive around them

Yes, in the motion of backing out. I can understand playing through when only the reverse lights are on and people shouldn't back out in front of moving traffic.

It's the people turning into the row as you're backing out that are the worst. You'll be half way out and they'll drive behind you.

But even with reverse lights on I still approach with caution because I don't need to get hit by others.

Esp. if you're parking with a trailer. I actually chewed one guy out years back - "Hey, you've got the whole fucking lot to park in, and you go out of your way to park by me." He moved it.

I used to intentionally park my shitbox (72 F-350 crew cab longbed)
next to people who parked in two spots.
Would put my rust and green truck about 3 inches from the driver's door.
Then one day I came out of the store and an 80ish year old woman was standing there with her groceries, struggling because some asshole (me) had blocked her access to her caddy.

I’ve never used multiple spots to park and way out from the nearest vehicle but my last custom ordered F150 got door dinged about a month after I picked it up.

I have never used more than one spot unless I had a trailer but thats still fucked up. I park respectfully and still get assholes too close.

I mean, I will park where I want. But I will only park close to somebody (trailer or not) if I'm forced to or if I am 100% confident in my skills to park properly and not damage anything.

Hey man! I said USED TO! 😅🤣😂

Seriously, if somebody parked in 2 spots in the way out spots, away from everyone, I wouldn't care. I can actually respect that.
The dudes that park in 4 spots up front in their shitty Rally Sport, or IROC- Z, those were my targets.

Then I pulled in and saw this brand new pimped out caddy diagonally in two spots right in front of the store and thought I was making it tough for some lazy pimp...but it was the pimp's mom and I really inconvienced her. Felt terrible!
I don't do that anymore.

You have to park defensively with a trailer.

It's a real challenge pulling in a fuel station with a motorhome and toad. You can't back up a toad so you have to try and hurry up and pull all the way forward to the last pump before someone comes in from the other direction and blocks you. Had it happen where a woman pulled in as I was trying to pull through and blocked me, then went in the store and didn't come out till what must have been at least 20 minutes, came out, backed up and drove away without even buying gas!
